To add to Nadia's great suggestions, what worked for me for years was to do leg lifts just before bed, and in the middle of the night if RLS woke me up. Lying on one side, I do leg lifts slowly until my muscles are exhausted, then flip over and do the other side. I also do toe raises until my calves...

Periodic Limb Movements in Sleep "Periodic limb movements in sleep are repetitive movements, most typically in the lower limbs, that occur about every 20-40 seconds. If you have PLMS, or sleep with someone who has PLMS (also referred to as PLMD, periodic limb movement disorder), you may recognize th...

When did the painful RLS start?
For those of you who have pain with RLS, when did that start? Did you always have pain associated with your RLS or was it something that was an added bonus, later in life? As a lifer with increasing symptoms, I am hoping that pain never develops with this horrendous disease. All the best, Heron

Sole, I read your various posts from the weekend this morning and can sympathize (all but the three kids, I can't imagine trying to parent when sleep deprived!). The depression that goes along with being constantly fatigued and knowing there's probably no sleep in sight is all-encompassing. I took m...

Sinemet Update
I've taken one Sinemet CR 25/100 before bed now for 8 weeks. Many nights I've been able to sleep for 4-6 hours without waking, although perhaps 2x/week I'll have to get up in the night with RLS. Here are the changes I've noticed: - Augmentation, I'm having symptoms in the afternoon at my desk. - Fat...

Sinemet No Longer Working
I've now had 3 bad RLS nights while taking Sinemet 25/100CR and some increased symptoms during the day while sitting at work (rarely had that before - augmentation?). Last night I even added a small dose of lorazepam and still woke up several times having to do my normal routine of leg lifts. Crap, ...

Hey Cowgirl, I've been an athlete all my life and had RLS as well. I have never been able to correlate increased fitness/activity = less RLS or decreased fitness/activity = increased RLS, however much I wish it were so! I thought recently that perhaps I exacerbated my RLS with increased weight lifti...

On this site (http://www.rls.org/literature/surgery.html) you'll find a brochure about RLS & Surgery that you might want to give your doctor next time. It lists some meds that should be avoided with RLS patients. All the best,

Thanks for your story, Sharon, I'm glad you've found relief! I also appreciate that you say "at least for me." So many things work for one person and not for the next, or work for only awhile. I was tested two weeks ago for ferritin levels and I was at 12. While in the normal range, it's on the low ...

Sinemet Update
Thanks for your replies, info and encouragement. I have been taking the generic Sinemet CR (25/100) for the last week and have had great success. For two nights I took only 1/2 a pill and that wasn't quite enough, so back to a whole one last night. So far the only side effects I've noticed are some ...

Kelly, I used lorazepam for several years, .5mg before bed maybe once a week when the RLS got really bad. Over the past few months it stopped working and like you, I'd be up several times each night doing legs exercises. I tried temazepam last week, a little stronger but ineffective also, then start...

Welcome Julie, from someone also fairly new to this forum. I can't help you with your question about daytime RLS (rarely have symptoms during the day), but I am interested in your Sinemet experience/side effects (I just posted a note about it in the Pharmacuetical forum). Best of luck finding soluti...
