Re: Opioid Tolerance
I was told my doctor that going straight from augmented Pramipaxole to opioids may require escalating does of opioids and/or more opioids to control symptoms. The rationale is that the by not taking a drug holiday the dopamine system never has a chance to return to baseline. Hmmm - that is interest...

I'm sorry for the late reply, but I've had a lot going on and can finally get back on here and wanted to update you on the methadone. Turns out I did sleep well with the methadone and it did well for preventing the rls to act up, but I had to fight to stay awake all day and would find myself fallin...

Re: Meds after dental surgery triggering RLS
Surgery itself can be the trigger, Donna. Many theories, but they don't really know why.
But a quick internet search suggests toradol is associated with increased symptoms!

The only I know about is that it affects Northern European ethnicities the most, and east Asian the least...that was years ago.

Re: RLS and bladder spasm treatment using PTNS
Surgery often does make symptoms worse. Since this isn't surgery, I don't think it would be the same. But, just a guess.

Interesting, Rick. Which specialist did you see that said receptors permanently damaged? I think Dr Ondo was working on this...but I may be remembering incorrectly.

Re: Weaning off Ropinirole
Hi jblackburn67. It is almost impossible to switch without the help of an opioid if you are augmented. It may cover symptoms later (it doesn't always do that for those who have augmented), but gabapentin cannot cover the symptoms as you cut back the ropinerole. It usually take between 5 days and sev...

Re: For Anyone Who Thinks RLS is a Joke
I was nowhere close to your 30 years, but meditated regularly for about ten or so years (I also swam about a mile 5 days a week, and am sure that they worked together to change my life). Losing that practice has made my life so much more chaotic. It was slow, but over time I've become more reactive,...

And crap, I didn't realize Dr B is 70. OMG. What will we all do?? He's such a life-saver!! I mentioned that to Dr Winkleman recently when we talked about the RLS opioid study they are doing - what was I going to do when DR B retires?????? Move to a new state???? What a freaking mess this can be.

Re: Is augmentation permanent??
So evidently rapid augmentation, and permanent augmentation, is not unusual. And yet, and yet, STILL the medical establishment is convinced augmentation can only occur if you've been on high doses for years. So much education of medical providers is still needed. It really needs to happen in Medica...

Re: Is augmentation permanent??
Beth, that is "interesting" that you augmented in just 4 months because so did I, and not at a very high dose. Anybody else out there who augmented quickly and didn't revert to their pre-DA condition? Maybe it's a thing. It was for me, too. We know of at least a handful of people here who didn't re...

Oops.. I meant to say that people who play racket sports have less Alzheimer's and less dementia than people who play other sports I had been playing pickleball last summer until I injured my hip. Maybe I need to get back to it. If only I could figure out what was causing the hip problem, darn it.
