Re: Off to see my sleep dude and get my eyes cut open

I talked myself out of it because I'd still need reading glasses...looking forward to hearing your experience. Same here. I went back and forth on getting Lasik for several years. Ultimately decided to go with progressive lens glasses. Before that, I wore contacts for 13-14 years. Couldn't get used...

Re: Specific doc at Mayo MN

Last November, I went to Dr. Michael Silber at Mayo Clinic in MN. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about RLS.

Re: Kratom is working for me

I've been taking Kratom for about 6 weeks, in lieu of 150 mg Lyrica and Seratame that I had been taking since my Mirapex withdrawal last December. The Lyrica/Seratame combination allowed for a decent night sleep with only about an average of one hour/night of RLS disruptions/lost sleep. But I was de...

Re: Uncontrolled rls

Probably the best source is the book "Clinical Management of Restless Legs Syndrome", 2nd edition, by Lee, Buchfuhrer, Allen, and Hening. You can get it on Amazon.

Re: Uncontrolled rls

Yes, currently the only prescription medication I take is Lyrica (300 mg). I also take Seratame, although I don't know if it's helping anymore. I plan on stopping this in a couple of months, to see if it makes a difference. I tried acupuncture during the Mirapex withdrawal, and this helped initially...

Re: Uncontrolled rls

I think she doesn't like it that I won't take the mirapex any more. It's so frustrating that so many doctors are still so clueless about augmentation. I am in a similar situation. I took Mirapex for many years, until last December when I was finally able to get off it. I've been taking Lyrica, whic...

Re: Requip to Gabapentin... When does it get better?

Once one has augmented and been through withdrawal, then what? Can I ever go on Requip again? Sherry Most experts say once you augment on a DA, you will augment again very quickly if you go back on, so it is not recommended that you go down that road again. Unfortunately, you will find your options...

Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.

It took me at least 4 weeks to feel like I was mostly through the withdrawal, and I was only taking 0.375 mg of pramipexole. I only got 7 hours of sleep once in the first 30 days. The first week, I averaged about 2 hours per night. It gradually improved from there. I'm on day 48 off pramipexole, and...

Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal

I made it through what I consider a major milestone in my recovery....night 30 off of Mirapex. Still seeing very gradual improvement in sleep. I've been averaging 6 hours per night for the past 10 nights, which I can live with, although I'd love to be able to get that up to 7 hours per night. Hopefu...

Re: Sleep Deprivation Causes Memory Loss

Is it sleep deprivation or medication that is causing the memory loss? Or both? I've had memory loss issues as well, and attributed it to Mirapex (just a gut feeling), since during most of my time on Mirapex, I was not sleep deprived. This was one of my reasons, along with augmentation, to discontin...

Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal

Made it through night 18 off of Mirapex. Certainly not out of the woods, but maybe more than half way out?? Improvement has been very gradual, and it seems to be two steps forward, one step back. A couple of nights in the past eight, I haven't slept hardly at all until 5 a.m., which I wasn't expecti...

Re: Medical Marijuana

I want to see peer reviewed papers, published in science journals I'm sure there were peer reviewed papers, published in science journals, 10-15 years ago touting the use of dopamine agonists for RLS. Look how that turned out. I don't put any more stock in so-called peer reviewed studies than I do ...

Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal

Made it through night 10. Nights 1-5, I averaged about 2 hours of sleep during the night, and nights 6-10, I averaged 3.5 hours. Last night (night 10), I got 4.75 hours, but really nothing significant until 4 a.m. During previous reductions in my Mirapex dose, I would see significant improvements in...
