Re: Severity of rls

I have severe RLS, and you won't get an amen from me. Not even close. I'm sure I'm not alone. Here's why....DRUGS MADE MY RLS WORSE!!!!!!!!!! You think drugs are the answer, I think they're a HUGE part of the problem. Augmentation, withdrawal, depression, tolerance, dependence, constipation. No than...

Re: Is this RLS???

If, as you've said, the sensations are rarely accompanied by an urge to move, then it sounds like you may have something else going on and it's not likely RLS. I would caution that, if it does turn out to be RLS, don't take the decision to go on medication lightly, especially a dopamine agonist such...

Re: Severity of rls

The person who posted that rls can go into remission by some experts have about the same odds as hitting the powerball, mega millions,cash/fantasy five, pick 4 and cash 3 numbers all in one day. Not to mention eliminating the deficit, solving world hunger, and bringing peace to the Middle East. And rev...

Re: Pramipexole Problems

I see no long-term benefit in doing this, assuming you are currently augmenting on Requip. You will most likely augment on Mirapex as well. Based on everything I've read and experienced, once you augment on a dopamine agonist, don't bother trying to switch to another one; get off of the dopamine ago...

Re: Severity of rls

Rangerfan51, are you familiar with augmentation? If not, check out the materials on this website, the plethora of posts on this discussion board, as well as the various webinars over the past year or so on the topic. It is possible that the Requip is actually making your symptoms worse as a result o...

Re: Neurologist Has No Clue

I agree that you need to find a new healthcare provider. That's scary that he doesn't understand the risks associated with dopamine drugs on RLS patients. I'm a member of a service club in Minnesota. Just yesterday a representative from our local health system gave a presentation, and spoke at lengt...

Re: Has anyone tried something called Seratame?

I'll add my two cents to this discussion. I've been taking Seratame for a little over a month. I am currently augmenting on pramipexole, which I've been taking for over a decade. I had very low expectations that Seratame would have any effect on my RLS, at least initially, because of the augmentatio...

Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal

jkendrick - Don't hold your breath waiting for a response from chirosyd. I've been waiting for 3 months. As is often the case on boards like this, sometimes you don't hear back from folks once their issues are resolved. I'm guilty of that myself, having been away from this board for 4-5 years at a t...

Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal

My Mayo appointment is now set for mid-November. It sounds like they will do a sleep study. Does that sound normal? Not sure how that will help, but I guess I'll go thru the motions. I've scrapped my plans to try another attempt on my own...I'll just wait for the Mayo appointment. My RLS has been mu...

Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal

Thanks for the response, jaybird8. Good luck with your depression issue. I'm expecting a long road ahead with depression a distinct possibility, as I'm contemplating another "Mirapex cessation" attempt on my own as I await my appointment with Mayo (they said it could be anywhere between 2 ...

Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal

jaybird8 - Thanks for sharing your story, and congrats on getting off Mirapex...that is no small feat! I have a few questions for you if you don't mind: 1. What was your tapering schedule? I believe it is generally recommended to reduce by .25 MG every 3 days, so I was curious to read that you were ...

Re: Med trials/insomnia/depression

I assume you mean a drug holiday taking nothing for RLS? Correct. Although if the DA withdrawal symptoms are severe, you will likely need oxycodone (as you did before) or another opioid for the first few weeks, to get thru the worst of it, and THEN go on the drug holiday. I personally haven't made ...

Re: Med trials/insomnia/depression

rlm, I would encourage you to try a 30 to 90 day drug holiday if possible to see where your baseline symptoms are at off of medication. I personally have lost faith in the medical community, first for getting us into this DA augmentation mess, and now for suggesting that Neupro is a viable option af...

Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal

Yes, I suspect you are right, they are both guessing, likely based on their respective extensive clinical experiences. To me it makes sense to be on the opioid for the first 2-3 weeks, to get through the worst of it, and THEN do a 10-day washout, BUT only if the opioid prescribed is sufficient to co...

Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal

A slow taper doesn't do it, either. I did that. And, still went through H E L L when I stopped. I was able to reduce from .75 to .125 mg, though, and keep my level of symptoms about the same. But, stopping is stopping. It just is plain hard. Good to know...I won't put myself thru this then. You'd t...
