Re: BEST MATTRESS FOR RLS
We have a firm mattress that I like. When we replace it we plan to get a split King because my movements can wake up my wife.

Coronavirus Shutdown and RLS
My wife and I have been isolating at home since March, going out once a week for groceries. One thing this time of changes has resulted in is a more routine life. Bedtime the same. Wakeup the same. Daily routine the same. Exercise the same. Diet the same, etc. Interestly, this has had a lessening ef...

Re: Pramipexole augmentation
Beth,
It could be that because I am taking a low dose of 2.5 mg I don't have any side effects related to RLS. I'm one of those people for whom a low dose of some medications seems to work as well as the standard dose.

Re: Pramipexole augmentation
Beth,
Another avenue I have explored is Ambien. When I occasionally use this, either because I can't get to sleep or wake up and am unable to get back to sleep, it works well and seems to calm my restless legs. Also it acts in about 20 minutes.

Re: Pramipexole augmentation
Beth, Yes, it is sometimes a problem to put up with the wait for the pramipexole to kick in, and I don't want to take it every night just in case. It seems that about half the time I need a pramipexole I get symptoms early enough in the evening that I can take a tablet a couple of hours before going...

Re: Pramipexole augmentation
Thanks for the helpful information, Steve. That's a relief. I take an iron supplement to keep ferritin level at 100; it's remained steady for over a year now, so I am able to cut back on 0.125 mg pramipexole dose from daily to as needed (on average 2-3 times per week). I consider myself lucky that R...

Re: Pramipexole augmentation
I have been taking 0.125 mg pramipexole for 10 years. Since getting my ferriin level to 100 a few years ago I now take pramipexole as needed. Is it inevitable that i will eventually augment?

Re: Iron Infusion Worked for me
Don't some Naturopathic doctors do IV infusions, inckuding iron? If do,that might be thd easiest approach. I was able to boost my ferritin from less than 20 to 100 by using oral iron supplements. It was a long process but it worked. I've been taking 0.125 mg of pramipexole off snd on for 10 years wi...

Re: 'Caffeine and RLS
I have eliminated many things over the years - rarely does anything seem to matter except ferritin level, excessive exercise (and only for a few days) or things to do with my skin - dry skin, tight clothes, scratchy items that tough me, something cold - and as soon as they are reduced or removed, t...

'Caffeine and RLS
RLS seems to be a mystery malady in many ways and so many folks have found anecdotal evidence that certain physical treatments work for them. I've tried some, not others. Some have worked a little, some have not. I'm wondering if anyone has had problems with caffeine intake and RLS. If I limit caffe...

Statins
I've been taking 0.125 mg pramipexole since 2011 I take it as needed when I have restless legs. Thankfully this has worked successfully for about 8 years. Mostly symptoms are mild, occasionally moderate and infrequently severe. I also find that moderate regular exercise helps. I have a medication qu...

Re: Personal Update
Beth--Thanks for your reply and helpful suggestions. Yes, you are right that I should give up blood donation, based on my experience of a year without doing so. And thanks for your advice about further increasing ferritin to eliminate the need for pramipexole.

Personal Update
I've been taking 0.125 mg of pramipexole for restless legs for about 7 years. I take it intermittently as needed to control symptoms, but not on a daily basis. I have not experienced augmentation and still obtain relief with the same dose as I started with. Ferritin level is at its highest level- 98...

Let's Talk Table Tennis
I started learning to play table tennis a couple years ago. What a fun sport it is! It's claimed that this is one of the best active sports for seniors like myself to play, engaging both brain and body. I've been taking lessons, which has really improved my game. Any other table tennis players out t...
