Re: Clonazepam CAUSING/aggravating RLS ????
Has anyone had their Clonazepam seemingly cause an increase in their symptoms ??? I'm wondering the same thing. A year ago (Jan/Feb 22) ago I was on 20mg Oxycodone and looking to reduce to 15mg, some nights were OK with 15mg, but too many weren't. After my bout with Covid in March my RLS symptoms f...

Re: MTHFR Gene Mutation
No, I have not. I am not sure about the validity of hair or serum tests for nutrient deficiency. Serum is often unreliable. because it's possible that you have decent serum values (for example of vitamin B12) but the intracellular levels (the one that really matter) are low. Also there is no one-si...

Alzheimers drugs...
Continuing a discussion from http://bb.rls.org/viewtopic.php?p=108389#p108389 , but it's off topic there... This whole discussion reminds me very much of Alzheimers research. The latest drug that is proving effective actually targets amyloid. I have been following the 'it is amyloid, the research wa...

Re: new to gabapentin
There are plenty of old threads about gabapentin, have you checked them out? http://bb.rls.org/search.php?keywords=gabapentin&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=titleonly&sr=topics&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search For me it didn't anything except side effects (vertigo, dizzyness, "restless arms" - yes...

Re: Published Research - General Sleep and RLS (WED)
There is this absolute obsession that RLS has to be neurological and from a cascade effect from low iron. [...] Try to find an explanation in a paper as to why when you move your legs the symptoms stop. It just isn't there because it is assumed that you understand that it is because of the motor an...

Re: My one year anniversary on a low oxalate/salicylate eating plan.
Do you think the dietary oxylates bind iron and contribute to low ferritin? Apparently they bind to calcium and magnesium. It's worse, actually. It binds to iron and prevents iron release where it is needed, but the transferrin is high because oxalate replaces a carbonate group in the transferrin. ...

Re: Iodine
Some update. My last TSH came back at 3.6, which is close to hypothyroidism (and quite a jump from the .5 to .8 which was my usual range). Still taking about 25mg iodine a day, my RLS has reverted back to where it was before I started the iodine. (Well controlled with 20mg Oxycodone, but I can't go ...

Re: Low Oxalate Diet, a possible explanation for its effectiveness
Have you looked into L-citrulline malate for the CFS? I I have tried pretty much any supplement ever mentioned under the sun :) From reading a lot of literature and discussion a lot with other patients, the one thing I'm sure of is that ME/CFS is not one illness, but a symptom group that can be cau...

Re: Is augmentation permanent??
I have questioned for many years whether dopamine agonists should be first line of treatment for RLS DAs are now relegated to the third level of treatment in the updated treatment algorithm [...] I keep forgetting that the US has a completely different treatment scheme :) Here in Germany, dopamine ...

Re: Low Oxalate Diet, a possible explanation for its effectiveness
Frunobulax, have you found the alanine to be helpful? This is all very interesting, but not doable for me because just about everything I can still eat is high oxalate. I do take calcium and magnesium, zinc, and B vitamins. But I'll try anything to find out if it helps. This question is a tough one...

Re: Melatonin added to the mix
The amber goggles might be a good thing for you. At least they would stop whatever is leaking in from the sides of your glasses. But it sounds like the clip-on filters are helping enough. Considering that I can barely distinguish black and white without glasses (-8 dioptres), clip-ons is the best I...

Re: Is augmentation permanent??
There was a research publication a year or two ago that hinted that augmentation causes permanent changes to the brain's structure. If we know anything about addictions, then that they cause long-term, often permanent changes. So an alcoholic or ex-smoker is at high risk for a relapse if she/he eve...

Re: Melatonin added to the mix
Beth (badnights), I am very interested in your light therapy and low dose melatonin. In fact I am interested in anything that works without drugs. I use a blue light filter instead of red light sources (available as clip-on for people who need glasses like me). It's not a game changer, but it seems...

Re: calcium
Not just any nuts, I think almonds are the highest in calcium - but soak them first to reduce the phytates. I agree with the rest of your post, but disagree here. It's true that almonds are rich in calcium, but they also have VERY high concentrations of oxalates. And oxalic acid will bind calcium i...
