Great news! I get to see Dr. Rye!
I posted this in a different thread yesterday, but since it got no views, I'm creating this new topic. I am rather new to these boards: joined RLS.org in August, but only started here last month. Had considerable difficulty trying to get infusions for low ferritin, but my rheumatologist came through...

Re: A few questions about iron tablets
Good points, Ann. So, so, SO glad I get to see Dr. Rye in a few weeks! I was thinking of bringing him rye bread, but he must get that a LOT.

Re: Success!!! Iron infusions ordered!
I've got even better news now: received a phone call this morning from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia: Dr. Rye had a cancellation and could see me next week! I had thought it would take until well into next year to get to see him. I was about to take the appointment, even though it meant my hu...

Re: Success!!! Iron infusions ordered!
Thanks all! Holland, you were so right about the infusion nurse: she had to go to the top and side of my hand near the wrist and I was ready to faint at the thought of how painful it would be. But I barely felt the stick and amazingly there is NO bruising--you would never believe that I had received...

What's the deal with magnesium?
Since I'm awake at 2:30am with nothing better to do, I may as well ask something that's been driving me crazy lately. Whenever I mention my problems with RLS to someone who doesn't know anything about RLS, they tell me, "You probably need more magnesium." Even when I go so far as to explain that I'm...

Re: A few questions about iron tablets
Makes me wonder how much the neurologist really knows about iron. She's the one who said to take them with vit c and with a full meal 3xday.

Re: A few questions about iron tablets
As for your husband, the multivitamins are probably not providing him with much iron, especially if he is taking them near mealtime like most people do. So, he might benefit from your remaining supply. Just make sure that he takes them the same way that you were, namely with a vitamin C (if they ar...

Re: A few questions about iron tablets
Would anyone advise that I keep taking these iron pills when I've got infusions coming up? Dr. Buchfuhrer wrote that they don't help, so should I just toss them? My husband has some unexplained anemia that they haven't been able to figure out a source for, but our PCP just told him to take a multivi...

Aww, thanks for that, Holland. That's comforting to know.

Re: Success!!! Iron infusions ordered!
I was getting a little worried when I hadn't heard from my doctor's office; thought I would have to start calling places myself. But a mysterious Russian-accented lady called this afternoon to set up the appointment for next week and assured me that Injectafer was a very very good solution. Apparent...

Success!!! Iron infusions ordered!
I am so happy to announce that--on RLS Awareness Day, no less--I have finally succeeded in getting a doctor to order iron infusions for me! I have to thank the people here on this site who helped me get this done. From a suggestion by ViewsAskew, I wrote an email to Dr. Buchfuhrer and was astounded ...

Re: A few questions about iron tablets
Steve, I actually liked that group very much and was getting good help from two of the admins. That's why I was surprised that I got banned. I had to join under my husband's FB account just so I could find the names of the two admins (I had forgotten) so I could ask them if they knew why I was banne...

Re: Has anyone arranged iron infusions on your own? How?
Last thing before I try to nap: even though Dr. Rye's page says he can see new patients within 3 days, that was completely false advertising (as I thought). They've got nothing at all for me, but the nice young lady who tried to help is sending a message to his team to see what they can do. Crazy th...

Re: Has anyone arranged iron infusions on your own? How?
Oh my gosh, my rheumatologist got a cancellation so I get to see him first thing tomorrow morning! He is the one who prescribed me Requip in March*, so he obviously doesn't know about iron being the first line of treatment, but he's also a good guy who should be open to learning more. I'm sure if I ...

Re: Has anyone arranged iron infusions on your own? How?
Oh that's a great suggestion! I forget about Emory. My husband and I were planning a road trip from Birmingham to Gettysburg, and I wondered about trying to get into Johns Hopkins--didn't even think about the one closer to home. Thanks SO SO much for Dr. Buchfuhrer's email address! I actually called...
