Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal
Hi Orrel, I eventually weened off of my last DA with the help of clonazepam. I have attempted a drug holiday from an opioid, but had no luck. This may be due to worsening symptoms, but I don't know.

Re: Methadone
Jaybird - congratulations on tapering from Mirapex. I regret to tell you depression is in fact a side-effect of methadone. I took neurontin (gabapentin) for many years and never had a problem with it causing what I thought was depression. In fact you can take a very large dose of gabapentin (ie 3000...

Re: Help for aching forearms
Hi richviv, I've had trouble with neuropathy and RLS in my arms. Whenever my neuropathy arises, usually from running long distances or heavy lifting, I'll use a pillow to help reduce the pain. While lying on my back I place a pillow on my abdomen so that I can lay my arms atop the pillow, hands elev...

Re: Opiate effectiveness for actual pain
I have had surgery for kidney stones and the most difficulty I had was convincing the doctor that I was not an addict. Apparently it was the hospital's policy that they not treat pain unless there was a family member present who vouch for me. The fact that I was taking fentanyl for a condition that ...

Re: Going off of opioids
Thank you for all of the supportive responses. After finishing a half-marathon I decided it was time to attempt a drug holiday. I'd been taking fentanyl for more than 1 year prior, but RLS symptoms increased requiring a change. I had experienced increased symptoms for at least 6mos prior to this, bu...

Going off of opioids
I have been taking opiods for over a year and found that I cannot travel abroad without concern over access to adequate care. It gives me hope to see that at least one person here has gone off of all medications except for the occasional Lyrica or similar med and I would like to go off of meds as we...

Re: Appointment with Dr.Earley
I'm glad you found Dr. Earley. My symptoms and quality of life have improved since seeing him.
Opiodes have their own set of characteristics, but nothing like the DA's. Good luck and stay well.

Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal
New to the Board. Wanted to share my experience with others. Long story short. 58 y/o very healthy male with moderate to severe case of Primary RLS from age 30, inherited it from my father. Sinemet - augmentation, then Requip - augmentation, then Mirapex - augmentation after about five. Went to see...

Re: Running and RLS
Thank you Rustsmith. It's good to know there's someone here who is able to overcome and continue running. Also, I know what you mean when you mention knowing for certain what is causing the symptoms. There are times when I have observed and avoided every possible trigger and yet my symptoms were as ...

Re: Different Countries, Different Meds?
I would like to attend graduate school in the UK, but I take fentanyl and lately methadone (1/2 tab) in addition for breakthrough pain. From what I can tell I would have difficulty finding a doctor who is knowledgeable and willing to treat my RLS adequately. I emailed the medical center in Austria, ...

Running and RLS
Hello, I am dealing with regular breakthrough pain, just about every night of the week. I was given extra meds to take, but there has been little to no help with symptoms even when taking extra meds. I expect that these symptoms stem from my running regimen. I"m getting ready for my first half-...

Fentanyl patch side effects
Hello, I was wondering if anyone here has experienced side effects while on fentanyl. I've been on the patch for several months, but about a month ago I began having severe side-effects, as if I had just started taking the med. I have gone to my local primary care doc and even made one trip to the E...

Re: Have Meds, Like To Travel
Thank you for your responses. I suppose I'll attempt to set some back as well. Also, I wondered about taking a DA in the meantime if I were to run out. I may have some requip, but I augment quickly and experience strange impulsive behaviors with the DA's, as so many others do. I understand your frus...

Have Meds, Like To Travel
I was born to travel, but I also take methadone for my WED because I have gone through the dopamine agonists (experienced augmentation and impulse control disorders). I've also gone through gapapentin, carbamazepine, L-dopa, and clonazepam. I had to go out of state, to Johns Hopkins, in order to get...
