Re: Rate of Ferritin Decline
I have never had an IV iron infusion. My experience has been that daily iron supplements ( 325 mg ferrous sulfate) have sufficed to raise and sustain my ferritin level high enough to keep RLS symptoms minimized most nights. On those nights when symptoms are increased I take 0.125 mg of pramipexole. ...

Re: Topic of the Year
I've been on pramipexole ( 0.125 mg) for about 4 years. My ferritin was about 20 when I started, and has now increased to almost 100 with a daily 325 mg ferrous sulfate tablet. Thankfully, I have not experienced DA augmentation.

Re: Ferritin Nearing 100
Are you experiencing any improvements to how you feel? I started taking iron a month or so ago and the daily fatigue I felt has dissapeared. It's a huge difference for me. I also have less achiness and pain during the day. I will have my blood rested in 3 months. My level was 33. It's interesting t...

Ferritin Nearing 100
I've been making a concerted effort since February to raise my ferritin level to 100 by taking 65 mg of iron daily. I'm nearing my goal with a ferritin of 81. My ferritin was low normal at the start.

Re: Genetics and RLS/WED
Steve, When you log in to your 23 and Me account, you can access a section called Raw Genetic Data. There they list each chromosome and the genotypes on each. The list is very long and not useful. You can also enter a gene or SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism) search by entering the number your lo...

Genetics and RLS/WED
There have been a number of research studies linking RLS/WED with specific genes. I am a member of '23 and me' genetic testing service and was able to compare my own genetic data with the gene regions (SNPs) associated with an increased probability of inherited restless legs syndrome. A number of my...

Re: Shingles vaccine, Zostavax
I got the Shingles vaccine at age 60, my wife at age 56. Six years after getting the vaccine I got shingles, but thankfully it was a mild case. I understand that there is a newer Zostavax that has been developed and is even more effective.

Dopamine Agonists and Balance
I haven't been able to find anything on the forum about this topic, so am asking if anyone on pramipexole or other dopamine agonists has experienced balance problems as a side effect? I take pramipexole at bedtime only , so it should be out of my system during the day. I've experienced some balance ...

Re: having ferritin serum level checked
My highest ferritin level taking 27 mg iron tablets twice daily was 61 (up from 19 when I started supplementation). A week ago it was down to 48 and my doctor suggested doubling the dose, taking the iron on an empty stomach with Vitamin C. A couple of questions for those of you who take ferrous sulf...

Re: having ferritin serum level checked
I'm one of those lucky persons whose symptoms of RLS have decreased with an increase in ferritin level. I initially had a ferritin of about 20. Two things have helped to increase it: (1) I stopped donating whole blood, which was decreasing ferritin levels. (2) I began taking daily oral iron suppleme...

Re: Ferritin Questions
My latest ferritin level is 42, up from 19. This is after taking 27 mg oral iron supplements daily for six months. My WED synptoms seem milder. Lucky me. My primary care doc wants me to increase the dose to see if the ferritin will increase more.

Re: Exercise (weightlifting/bodybuilding)
I've found that regular exercise can mitigate RLS/WED. I've had to experiment with exercise type, timing, intensity and duration--and am still experimenting. One thing that regular exercise has helped me with is weight control. I've been taking a low dose of pramipexole for over two years and have g...

Your ferritin level (which is not that high compared to Hereditary Hemochromatosis patients) would not cause you to shock other people. There must be another reason.

Ferritin Questions
How many of you take oral iron supplements to raise your ferritin levels? If you take iron supplements how much iron do you take daily? How often do you check your ferritin level ? (Whether you take an iron supplement or not) How long did it take on supplemental iron for your ferritin level to get t...
