Re: TENS stimulation for WED/RLS: Effective parameters

I got my Quell Pain Management unit in the mail yesterday. I have tried it twice. The first was last night. I usually get pains in my hands and sometimes in one foot even after taking 600 mg of Horizant and 50 mg of Ultram. I took those twice pills and then put on the Quell. the electrical impulses,...

Re: TENS stimulation for WED/RLS: Effective parameters

I get WED sensations in the hands. Lately my hands have been painful. I have been attributing the pain to WED, for which I have severe symptoms. But I have been working outside the house on some strenuous landscaping tasks. It is possible this is the source of the pain. Otherwise my WED sensations a...

Re: TENS stimulation for WED/RLS: Effective parameters

Is anyone familiar with the Quell Wearable Pain Relief? One of my doctors said it is related to TENS type electrical stimulation. You wear it on the upper calf. good for pain relief but my question is whether our RLS symptoms are the type of pain that can be blocked by this unit, and presumably by T...

Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal

Yeah, I didn't hardly dream on just Mirapex. In a eep test I got almost no stage 3 and 4 sleep. When I added 300 mg of gabapentin, I started getting lots of dreams.

Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal

The graphics on that link were very informative in explaining how opiates impact dopamine availability and receptors. And very interesting how they think that GABA decreases the amount of dopamine made available. Research seems to say that WED affects both the dopamine and gaba systems so I take both.

Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal

Here is what I came up with when searching for "opiates" and "neurotransmitters:" "Opioids act by attaching to specific proteins called opioid receptors, which are found in the brain, spinal cord, gastrointestinal tract, and other organs in the body. When these drugs attach ...

Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal

As far as I can tell from a brief search on the internet, opioids do not act on the dopamine neurotransmitter system. So it seems to me that you can reset your dopamine receptors while on an opioid. I worry about making my baseline symptoms worse were I to go on a 90 day washout, without any meds. 2...

Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal

I spent two months trying to get off Mirapex. I usedd the opioid-like Ultram although I would have preferred to use a real opioid. I needed a very high dose of Ultram once I got below 0. 25 mg of Mirapex (I was on 1.0 mg at the start). Finally added back in 0.5 mg og Ropinirole, which worked. And th...

Re: Erratic results with Gabapentin

I had erratic results from using Gabapentin. It worked great as a 300 mg supplement to Mirapex. But not so well when I tried to make it my main drug. I would use up to 1200 mg and it wasn't enough. I am much happier on Horizant. I am also on the Neuro patch and I take a 50 mg og Ultram an hour befor...

Re: Is your DA causing augmentation?

I spent 2 months trying to get off Mirapex at 1.0 mg level due to augmentation and impulse control issues. Couldn't get off DAs completely. I used 0.5 mg of ropinirole first and then went to the 1 mg Neuro patch. I like the patch. Using a 600 mg Horizant pill and 0.5 mg Ultram with it alleviates my ...

Re: Getting off mirapex

I have gotten off Mirapex recently. It was difficult and I couldn't get completely off dopamine agonists. What I am on now that works is a 1 mg Neupro patch (dopamine agonist), 600 mg Horizant (Gabapentin Encarbil), and 50 mg of Ultram (Tramadol). That works very well for me. Only problem is remembe...

Re: tramadol

I didn't realize a month ago when I wrote the 2 previous messages that I was only very early in the transition from Mirapex to gabapentin. A month later I am still not finished. I got up to as high as 300 mg of tramadol and currently need 200 - 250 mg. I am not sure if the gabapentin isn't going to ...

Re: Mirapex to gabapentin

I have been shifting form Mirapex to gabapentin for over 5 weeks, using ultram to help with the withdrawal symptoms. I may have plateaued at 1500 - 1800 mg gabapentin with 100 - 150 mg of Ultram(tramadol). for about 3 days I wa taking 1200 mg of gabapentin and 100 mg of tramadol at 9 pm. But each of...
