As long as I don't drink caffeine in the evening, it doesn't seem to effect my EKD symptoms or cause insomnia. In fact, today I drank less caffeine than usual, and now my EKD is flaring up like crazy, worse than the past few months!

The main side effect I have from gabapentin is RLS/EKD! I am a weird person who often has paradoxical effects of medications. I first experienced RLS after starting gabapentin 10 years ago. The problem is, gabapentin is such an effective mood stabilizer/antidepressant augmenter that I can't go off i...

I wouldn't say I'm an angel, per se. I was seriously irritable the other day, and I feel like my judgement was impaired, unfortunately. The good news is that I'm doing a bit better, getting 4-6 hours instead of 1-2. It is interrupted sleep, but I'm feeling more functional.

Cornelia- interesting study. Although the last line irritates me, because it seems to belittle what we go through. "Thus, the heightened degree of alertness demonstrated by RLS patients may be in contrast to the perceived impairment in mood, vigor, and vigilance commonly reported in previous st...

Dogeyed, my manager at work is aware of the RLS, and is sympathetic. I had a 3 week medical leave for this in the past (granted by a doctor that retired since then), so she knows it is "real". So I'm not so worried about losing my job, just stressed about missed wages because I have run ou...

I brought the Mayo Algorithm to my first and only visit with the Neurologist. He glanced at it, including the place where I showed him that you CAN augment on Mirapex, and then tossed it away. He was not interested, and does not seem to take this very seriously. I am going to call my HMO a little la...

want to scream- doctor rant etc

Hi guys. I haven't been around much because I was doing better. The iron supplementation seemed to be working. My neuro had given me klonopin, which I only took a couple times because it was so sedating. I know that benzos aren't part of the Mayo Algorithm, but it worked somehow. So after several mo...

I have some Norco left over from my gallbladder surgery. I think I'll try it again when the symptoms get bad again. The only problem is that it decreased my respirations too much when I was in the hospital, so I may try a half or a quarter pill.

I quit about 2 years ago. After several failed attempts, my acupuncturist suggested I try a treatment she does, where you go in for several days in a row for a brief treatment. Not sure how it works but it does work. My RLS was worse for the first 72 hours, and I had a lot of trouble sleeping. After...

Any kind of activity helps when I'm restless. I'm finding that the Klonopin works when things are flaring up, even in micro-doses. I think it just makes me so sleepy I can't help but sleep. I realize it isn't in the algorithm, but my neurologist is a stubborn, stubborn man who was dismissive of the ...

I also have the history of generalized anxiety as well as panic attacks and sometimes severe agoraphobia. This is why I won't go off the Gabapentin even though it might cause the RLS for me. It was the miracle drug that helped my antidepressant and dramatically reduced my anxiety.

I am CRAZY ticklish. I am constantly telling the boyfriend "firm touch firm touch!", because if he touches my arm or elsewhere lightly, it tickles and drives me nuts! My elbows are ticklish.

I have always had an extremely strong startle response, and have often had hyper-reflexes. This was before the RLS started.

See, the problem is that I never had RLS until I started Gabapentin. So obviously we can't treat it with that, and my psychiatrist REALLY does not want me to go off the Gabapentin because it is really helpful for my psych symptoms. The neurologist offered me Klonopin or Vicodin, I chose Klonopin but...
