The Onion

Wasn't familiar with The Onion before this. When I opened it I thought it was gonna be about a doctor who treats constipation. LOL

Relationships

Just thinking, you say you've been married 3 years and have had RLS for 2 so is there something that has changed to cause this fairly recent onset? Hopefully you have had iron studies as well as made sure you are nutritionally sound. Also, be sure you're not on any meds known to cause or exacerbate ...

Compression clothing

Maybe Spanx, although you'd still run into size issues, but without the feet pulling on them maybe they'd stay up better. There are exercise leotards, etc. without feet. Not sure if the missing feet would alter the compression you seek. I cannot tolerate anything on my legs when they're acting up. J...

Sinemet

Back in the late 90's Sinemet was the first med given to me for my RLS/PLMD by a pulmonologist treating sleep disorders. When seeing a neuro doc for other issues, they took me off Sinemet and put me on Mirapex for my legs and Neurontin for my neck pain. The doc explained to me that Mirapex is an ago...

Nighttime urination

Don't know if this applies to you or not, but just in case, I'll mention two common contributors to this problem. 1) Fluid retention that flushes out once you get your legs up. 2) Sleep apnea. Before treating my sleep apnea with CPAP I got up to pee every few minutes. Since my treatment has been wor...

PLMD

Any number of things can cause limb movements, but no other disorder causes movements that have the characteristics of limb movements caused by PLMD. They are distinct in their presentation. I was looking for material I've read before about the diagnostic criteria, but ran out of time to keep lookin...

PLMD

Wow, that sure got confusing. The part about a person with RLS can't have PLMD especially. All the literature I've read gives statistics on what percentage of people are diagnosed with both. I wonder if what they were saying is that you can't experience both at the same time, since one generally hap...

Other Possibilities in addition to RLS

Did your sleep study mention PLMD or Periodic Limb Movement Disorder? PLMD causes frequent movements which will be stereotypical in nature (be similar) and repeat at patterned intervals. A person can have this and RLS. Movements from PLMD can present as a repeated big toe flexion, to foot movements,...

Anyone tried MicroVascular Therapy?

Took a friend to a doctor's appt. today and sat with her during an MVT session. She had electrodes on her legs and feet. This doctor said she's having very favorable results in patients with pain and neuropathy from diabetes. I asked her about RLS /EKD and PLMD, and she said that there is potential ...

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is something that I've wanted to try, but have not as of yet due to my insurance coverage and the co-pays. A physician who did an EMG on me once told me that if the EMG helped my symptoms, it was an indicator that acupunture might be helpful. I slept great the night after the EMG. If mon...

TENS Unit

I use the TENS Unit for about 30-45 minutes before bedtime. I don't sleep with it. My knowledge of its operation is quite basic. It has icons for pre-sets, and I just select the one that shows the lower back. From what I've read, different currents are known to be best for different locations of use...

PLMD - Recent Sleep Study Results

Over the years I've had several sleep studies as my leg movements have tormented my nights. Had another one this week to assess the effectiveness of me going off the meds and using just a TENS Unit for treatment. I also use a CPAP for sleep apnea, and that portion of the test was routine as I've bee...

Non-medication treatment

I've gone thru several meds that have proved to have either limited effectiveness, diminishing effectiveness, or downright have an opposite effect. I am currently using a TENS Unit and my sleep is better than it's been in years - with no side effects. Not perfect, but after so many years of utterly ...

RLS or PLMD

I've talked to some sleep techs about this, and even among them there seemed to be inconsistency. But anyhow, one can have periodic limb movements, meaning the legs move periodically and this is not specific to cause. Not the same as having Periodic Limb Movement Disorder. The movements have to meet...

RLS vs PLMD

I'm wondering how often those who suffer at night aren't accurately diagnosed and actually also have PLMD. Although I agree that it just makes sense to me that RLS could happen while asleep. I mean, why not?
