Who on here has both RLS/WED and PLMD?

Some stats I was reading said up to 80% of RLS/WED patients also have PLMD. Just wondering if that holds true with those who frequent this forum. While some of the same medications are prescribed for both, I was wondering what other PLMD patients are doing that might be different from those with RLS...

Re: Impulse Control Disorder and Requip

While I did have impulse control issues on Mirapex, sure can't say it was in controlling what I ate. I got to the point where my desire to have food would drive me to be in the kitchen cooking a meal at 3am. I also had what I think was a hybrid of the spending and the gambling issues, which are comm...

Re: RLS and ED

Not the right gender to have personal experience to offer, just done some reading over on cpaptalk about sleep apnea and ED. And have read that sleep deprivation in general is a risk factor in itself. I do understand about the WED making using CPAP difficult. When one is already in a state of agitat...

Re: Open question #7: PLMS, Sleep fragmentation and WED

That's interesting ViewsAskew. Is your PLMW from augmentation? There was a period of a few years where my PLMD was showing up when I was awake enough to be aware but not wide awake. If I opened my eyes or became alert, the movements would immediately stop. Just curious, does your PLMW happen with yo...

Re: Open question #7: PLMS, Sleep fragmentation and WED

Just a note on the difference between WED movements and PLMD. WED movements will be random as far as timing and varied in appearance. In PLMD, the periodicity is the identifier. The movements are rhythmic - you could time them on a stopwatch - and they will be repetitive and stereotypical. Even thou...

Re: Open question #7: PLMS, Sleep fragmentation and WED

With the many variables we see in these disorders, it would be hard to establish relational absolutes. Yes, some may have both, but plenty have either/or. I happen to have both, but interestingly (to me at least ), I didn't have RLS/WED until after I started meds for the PLMD. And, after going off a...

Re: Open question #6: Augmentation and disease progression

I too lack clarity on the augmentation vs disease progression issue. Spent years under the impression it was progression when it turned out to be augmentation. Augmented on both the L-Dopa and the DAs. Well, on the L-Dopa, maybe it was just considered side effects, I don't know. Can't begin to under...

Re: Sequential Compression Devices for RLS

@pjmccoy1 The device you linked to is totally different from the compression devices discussed earlier in this thread. The device you mentioned is a TENS device, which I use use to quiet my legs at night. From reading the link, I'm not sure how they are recommending it be used. I've read where some ...

Re: Is your DA causing augmentation?

Thanks for posting that for those who may not be tuned in to the possibility of augmentation. I have WED and PLMD. For years it was thought my disorder was progressing so my meds were increased. Suffered for years with intensely exacerbated symptoms before it was realized I was augmenting. Thanks ag...

Re: Augmentation and mood swings

It was Mirapex. Can't remember the dose but if I run across some medical documentation I'll come back and post. I do remember I'd had 2 or 3 increases after the initial starting dose. And I remember a new doctor saying it was more than they prefer to have a patient on.

Re: Augmentation and mood swings

Stopping a dopamine agonist abruptly from a high dose (high dose may be key) caused me to develop an odd variant of synesthesia, where the brain glitches and mixes the senses. When I saw my neurologist he said the abrupt stop was the cause of my symptoms. Within a few days after stopping I got this ...

Re: Augmentation and mood swings

I wish I could help you with the meds, but I am not versed on reasons to take or not take them. Been there myself and dealt with augmentation, and yes, it is utterly miserable. I stayed on Mirapex far too long simply because I dreaded (feared) what the weaning process and transition to Requip might ...

Re: Bupropion (Wellbutrin)

"I have wondered quite a bit lately if we shouldn't completely stop drugs, be miserable, then try new ones. When we try new drugs and we haven't completely gotten the other drugs, I am wondering if the other drugs really can work." In theory that sounds like a clearer path to more definiti...

Re: Sequential Compression Devices for RLS

Regarding the TENS electrodes, I used to use some that were good for 3 or 4 uses maybe. At some point I tried the ones advertised to last a month and have found 3 weeks is more accurate for me but I have had some that stayed sticky for over a month, and that was without taking the suggested extra pr...

Re: Sequential Compression Devices for RLS

Out of curiosity I looked over on PubMed and did find mention of a couple studies (not very current) that indicate some people are helped by compression devices. Back when my RLS/WED and PLMD were horrid due to augmentation, I couldn't have tolerated anything touching my legs like that, but at this ...
