Re: Published Research - General Sleep and RLS (WED)

A possible reason for seasonal variation in RLS—at least for me—is that I sleep better in cooler weather and less well in warm or hot weather. If I'm waking up due to being hot in the night my RLS seems to be worse. That might not matter where summer air conditioning is popular but most Kiwis don't ...

Re: Weaning off Ropinirole

I'm glad you found this site. Your primary also had no clue letting you take 4mg of Ropinerole. If you haven't augmented you would have been very close and that is a terrible place to be.
Good luck.

Re: Halloween. wwhhhooooo .....

When I was a child I loved Halloween, it was my favourite holiday. Starting the day after we started planning our costumes for the following year. I'm an American expat living in New Zealand. Halloween is just starting to become entrenched but for my first few decades here it did not exist. I guess ...

Re: Article on Medical Gaslighting in the NYTimes

Gas Light was originally a British stage play. There have been several movies including, the one I remember, Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman in Gaslight (1944). (No, I am not that old but used to watch old films.) It would be worth trying to find one on line, it is an excellent story. From Britanni...

Maybe your wife would be willing to wear ear plugs.

My favourites are the silicon ones which remind me of a cross between bubble gum and candlewax.
I live on a river with rapids and in the summer when I need to sleep with the windows open I use them.

Re: levothyroxine and RLS

I had my thyroid removed about 16 years ago and have had rls a lot longer. There's never been a problem with taking levothyroxine but because I take oral iron tablets I take my levothyroxine in the middle of the night so they do not confilct. I took ropinerole for many years, never taking a high dos...

Re: Very Slow Taper off Ropinirole

I augmented on ropinerole about 15 years ago. I was only up to .5mg (maybe even less) but had already augmented on sinemet so I knew what was happening thanks to this discussion board and was able to cut back. Finally about two weeks ago—after getting down to .125mg for maybe a year I totally got ri...

Hi Martin, You have been going through hell. I'm not an expert at all but it seems to me you need to be taking opiates. Experts on this board will be able to advise you but I just wanted to let you know that I really feel for you and your wife. I'm lucky I found rls.org decades ago when I started au...

Re: Quality Care Centers

I take 120mg of codeine at night and also iron tablets so I am well acquainted with constipation. What alleviates it for me is Benefiber, a heaping tablespoon in hot water or tea three times a day. I prefer it to drugs but occasionally at lunch when I'm out I'll take a Coloxyl tablet which is socusa...

Re: Navigating care…do I go back on DAs?

Please don’t be discouraged, be encouraged by all the information that has helped so many. I have learned so much and am well informed when I see my PCP. I’m still up for a third of the night in segments but I know coping with that and not increasing my medications is my choice and I know my options...

Hi Nerdiya,

So sorry about your little son. I wouldn't wish that on anyone much less a little child.

I stretch my calves up and down on a step and do downward dogs, all in the middle of the night as well as walking.

Re: Iron supplementation Timimg

I understand the timing problem—with some meds needing to be taken with food, some on an empty stomach, some can't be taken together. It's a balancing act for sure. I even take my thyroid medicine in the middle of the night but with RLS that's no problem as I'm up several times throughout the night.

Re: weight. gain

Interesting article from Dr. Gabe Mirkin who I respect and admire.

https://www.drmirkin.com/nutrition/why- ... -work.html

I read recently that when someone loses a lot of weight (such as yo yo dieting) they lose fat and muscle. When weight is regained, it is just fat.

Re: Newbie still exploring

More distraction hints: When my legs were really bad, before finding my current cocktail, I worked on jigsaw puzzles. Standing, stretching and walking a little while finding the pieces helped and passed the time in the middle of the night. Now my legs are not as painful but still wake me up several ...
