Re: What is "Good Sleep Hygiene" RLS Style?
I too have adapted standard sleep hygiene suggestions to fit my own needs. I remember when at my worst I would provide myself the atmosphere conducive for sleep, then just hope for the best. I do still limit caffeine to earlier hours as I see the difference in my sleep when I have it in the late eve...

Re: CPAP For RLS Yet No Apnea
I use a bi-level cpap machine, but I do have sleep apnea. I have heard of people using cpap just because they prefer breathing filtered air at night as it helps their allergies. As far as for getting more oxygen, have you tested your oxygen levels overnight, either through a lab supplied monitor or ...

Re: New here...PLMD...struggling
I use the TENS in the same manner it was prescribed for lower back pain, but right before bedtime. On occasion I've had to repeat during the night, but not often. When my legs are acting up a lot I go to sleep with it on, helps me be able to fall asleep. Only thing is even though the activity stops ...

Re: New here...PLMD...struggling
Just in case someone might find it helpful, I have successfully managed my PLMD for about 6 years by using a TENS Unit before bedtime. This is not in the treatment plan of any practitioner I've dealt with, but my sleep doctor was very interested and ran a series of sleep studies to see if my claims ...

Re: Yikes
One year bats started coming in and we found out a plate covering some sort of vent in the basement to the outside had come off. Unfortunately their entry to my living quarters was where a piece of floorboard was missing - under my bed. In the wee morning hours I heard flapping and scuffling under m...

Re: Lost
You are wise to be discerning and cautious. it is easy to be an enthusiast for that which has worked for us, and lose sight of how difficult it is for one hearing so many (and sometimes dissenting) voices. Usually there is a tipping point in any struggle. If you cross it you will find yourself more ...

Re: Lost
Sorting through whether one is augmenting or not can be a bit tricky. If you end up finding that your dose (in my opinion a HUGE dose) is causing augmentation, I can tell you that getting off the med is one of the hardest things I've ever done, but staying on the med was even harder. At that dose I ...

Re: Leg Problems
Hi. I too use a cpap, and I used to take Mirapex. Couple things about your legs... Have you had any follow-up sleep studies since being on Mirapex while using cpap? It could be that your medication is not controlling your legs enough to give you the sleep you need. The sleep clinic ending up having ...

Re: Central Apnea, Methadone Withdrawal, and Other Trials and Tribulations
Deb, sure hope things begin to turn around as you manage to get some sleep. I hesitate to add anything to your plate but feel it is important to reinforce that while using a regular bi-pap may make treatment of your obstructive sleep apnea more tolerable, it will not necessarily treat any central sl...

Re: Central Apnea, Methadone Withdrawal, and Other Trials and Tribulations
Deb, if methadone gives you your life back, maybe you can get your doctor to order an ASV machine which is like CPAP except it can initiate breaths for you if you have central apnea events. You wouldn't be the first person I've seen post that they had to go that route because stopping the methadone ...

Re: Neupro and chronic fatigue
Unusual sleepiness is listed as a "minor" side effect. I had sleep attacks on Mirapex and it altered my life. Became unsafe to drive or cook. If you are finding yourself suddenly asleep, please take it very seriously. I kept fighting the good fight until I fell sleep at the wheel. if you f...

Re: How to overcome eating to cope
Just adding my thoughts to what's already been said. The possible side effect of compulsive behaviors on dopamine agonists is very real. Been through that one. Read recently that Abilify is now said to have that risk, and who knows how many other meds. Any conditions that interfere with healthy quan...

Re: Are Repeated (Stuck) Thoughts Common In PLMD?
Interesting. Seems the experiences vary - no surprise there. lol Wonder if it depends on if one is medicated or not. When I look back on it, my mind was worst at this when I was augmenting. It still rears it's ugly head now and then, but not so forcefully.

Re: Here I go...
Oh my! Scary endeavor. I hope you find that once past the after effects of augmentation that your baseline movements are not as bad as you've been experiencing. The severity of my symptoms that I thought was a progression of the disease turned out to not be. Without augmentation maybe you'll need le...
