Re: Gabapentin - I want to pull my legs off

Your reaction to drugs could very well be much different from the "normal" reactions and absolutely NO neurologist on this planet is going to be able to predict the absence or severity of the side effects that you will experience. This is true, Steve. I took 1,200 mg + of Neurontin (befor...

Re: Gabapentin - I want to pull my legs off

So, just talked to the neuro doc on call. He said depression is a very rare side effect of gabapentin at this low dose and maybe I was depressed because of something else! I wish I'd screamed at him: "YEAH, NO REAL SLEEP In WEEKS!" He said gabapentin has a very short life and to "just...

Re: Gabapentin - I want to pull my legs off

Thank you for responding to my drug induced ramble. I did stop the pramipexole fast so maybe it's withdrawal. I can't imagine taking any more gabapentin as I did take another 100mg at 4:30 am. Slept until 8ish and I'm feeling completely in the mud. Sad, angry, irritated, and hopeless. And that last ...

Gabapentin - I want to pull my legs off

Neurologist prescribed 100mg gabapentin at night. After 3 nights of no relief he upped dose to 200mg. Night before last I took 200mg at 10:30p plus 1mg clonazepam at midnight because I was desperate. I slept for 7 hours. (!) I was off balance, and dopey all day plus eating non-stop. And, I had RLS a...

Re: What Severe RLS is Like

Just in case someone searches for nortriptyline, I should clarify that I did have bouts of RLS while I was on it (it did lessen my back pain a lot, though).

Re: What Severe RLS is Like

For me, the RLS does come and go. I've had months/years of no RLS since it first started when I was in my late twenties and now (50-something). I also had a few months this summer when I was RLS-free. I'd stopped taking oxycodone (20mg, two times a day) and clonazepam (very high dose 3mg/night) over...

Ferritin decrease to 90ng from 115ng enough to increase RLS or augmentation risk?

Another clue in my RLS puzzle? Quick backstory: have severe RLS (legs, arms, trunk), started .125mg pramipexole Aug. 16, 2016, complete relief until Sept. 6, 2016. Had augmentation on sinemet in the mid-90's so suspected it again. Neuro raised dose to .25mg. Didn't help. Had my ferritin level checke...

Re: Specific doc at Mayo MN + How to Choose and Talk to Your Doctor

I've read the Foundation's "First doctor visit" publication which is a great overview of what to take with you, what to expect the doctor to ask, and what a sleep study does. Maybe you all could write a primer about specific things to say/not say with little vignettes on "How to choos...

Re: Specific doc at Mayo MN

I like the new mom analogy. The doctor I'm going to see at the Sleep Clinic is female (changed my appointment so I could see a woman) and she has a "special interest in how sleep dysfunction relates to maternal and infant outcomes" along with restless legs syndrome. I'm going to assume she...

Re: Restiffic and Relaxis Information

A chi machine is basically a passive exercise machine that supposedly improves your circulation. Here's how Wikipedia describes it: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chi_Machine
(No sales stuff there!)

Re: Specific doc at Mayo MN - Excellent discussion going on here about how to interact with your doctor

If I have to I'm prepared to travel to CA to see Dr. B. I'm not the best communicator when it comes to medical stuff because I was brought up to ignore and smile. My Mom had kidney stones that were so painful she threw up but she kept smiling and told the doctor she was fine. I'm trying to be more h...

Re: Specific doc at Mayo MN

The advice about not overwhelming the doctor with info, being concise, and using correct terminology is brilliant. Thank you! Steve, I'm sorry you're on the receiving end of the PBA. My husband is a fixer and I see his frustration because he can't do anything. Have you or your wife seen the PBAinfo....

Re: Restiffic and Relaxis Information

A vibrator, huh? Hmmm. Worth a try. Ditto for the foam rollers. I'm actually going to ask my PT about them anyway because I've got some crazy tight glutes. I also have a chi machine which I keep forgetting about. It works sometimes. I wonder if the Relaxis vibration is as intense as the chi machine ...

Re: Specific doc at Mayo MN

I have a hard time being direct. And the minute I started crying I knew where it was going to go. I could see the doctor's gears: "Hm - middle aged, overweight, disabled woman with a history of severe depression. She needs an anti-depressant." Plus I forgot to remind him that I have pseudo...
