Re: Lyrica - on its own - effective dose?
I take Lyrica by itself - 75 mg. I definitely do NOT have a mild case of WED but I am extremely sensitive to meds so I tend to under-dose to minimize side effects. I think it's worth a try. My doctor had me start at 25 mg and then add another 25 mg every two or three days until I got to 100 mg. I fo...

Re: amino acids...
I'm on 50 mg. 75 mg makes me too tired the next day. I noticed that at first I would have to do 100 mg to get full relief of my symptoms but over the months I have been able to cut back on the nightly dose. I don't know if it's building up in my system or what, but I'll take it (knock on wood)!

Re: anti-depressant
The reason why people with a history of eating disorders can't take Wellbutrin is because it can increase anxiety and cause anorexia (not anorexia nervosa, just anorexia). So with the tendency for the drug to reduce the body's "I'm hungry" signals, and increasing the anxiety levels, which ...

Re: Ferrous Sulfate (Iron) Supplementation and Stool Color
Is is the same supplement?
I found that when I switched to a supplement that was better absorbed, I noticed that I didn't see so much of the iron coming out the other end, so to speak.

Re: Fired my doctor today
Afternoon followup: My email to the doctor certainly seems to have had an effect. I received a phone call from the nurse (for the very first time) with an explanation of why she did not make the call to the pharmacy until yesterday. The excuse seems somewhat lame, but at least she called. I also re...

Re: Sleep has changed for the better !
I have just been diagnosed with tachycardia, and the cardiologist suspects it's due to an overactive thyroid. I hope if it is that, that starting on meds makes my WED go away as well!

I went to Wisconsin Sleep and that is where I was diagnosed. I saw Dr. Ruth Benca - I would HIGHLY recommend her!! She is a psych in addition to being a sleep specialist, and she's up on all the latest research.

Re: Adding Lyrica?
It is "cleaner" than gabapentin in terms of how it is processed in the body, so the side effects are usually less. I have gained a little weight but I'm pretty sure it's water retention and not actual weight gain. I would suggest if you do try Lyrica to start at 25 mg and add 25 mg per wee...

Has anyone tried Floradix for iron?
Has anyone tried Floradix or other liquid iron supplement? I really need to start back on an iron supplement but can't deal with the intestinal side effects, and Floradix ( http://www.floradix.net/ ) claims it is easily absorbed and non-constipating, but in my experience those two things are usually...

Re: Protein supplements/Artificial sweeteners
I will echo the others in that I avoid all artificial sweeteners, especially Nutrasweet (aspartame) and Splenda (sucralose). I don't avoid saccharine but rarely consume it as it's not used much anymore. I take amino acids every day and find they help my WED. From what I could ascertain, they increas...

Re: amino acids...
I'm not sure whether the weight gain is all from water retention but it might be. I'm not uncomfortable. I honestly don't know whether or not my SSRI had a hand in worsening my WED because I can't remember when I first started on one and if it was before or after the RLS started. I do know that I've...

Re: amino acids...
I am the same way with being ultra-sensitive to meds. I rarely have any withdrawal symptoms though...it's weird. I recently started Lyrica and I really like it. I am only on 75 mg but it really does help. I don't want to go any higher because it causes water retention and constipation already. About...

Re: RLS and ADHD
Thanks for that Wild One! The only thing I know of for sure that can cause permanent damage is the benzos. I know of someone who went off them cold-turkey and ended up with Parkinson's, which never got better. But he was a heavy user (was a dentist and could order them by the bucket-full). I think g...

Re: RLS and ADHD
Yes, I do have ADHD and take Adderall for it. It is suspected that lack of dopamine is a part of ADHD, and stimulants increase the amount of dopamine in the brain and in doing so help with the ADHD. So it makes sense that people with a defect somewhere in their dopamine delivery system would be susc...

Re: Glutamate Study background and hyperarousal
I guess the first thing is for us to NOT take any thing with glutamate in it. That doesn't follow, peanut. Glutamate is manufactured in the brain cells, I don't think there's any evidence that it will increase if we eat more glutamate. But - that said - I think there are other good reasons for avoi...
