Genetic Testing
My wife and I had genetic testing done with the popular 23 and Me group. It was very interesting for us to do and had what I thought was some useful information. Nothing shocking. The testing, when we got it last year, was $300, but is now $100. One of the genetic risk factors I had was for--you gue...

Gender Differences in WED
It seems to be that WED is gender-similar when it comes to symptoms and treatment. Does anyone know of any gender differences in WED?

Re: Sleep Study
I had the Sleep Study done Wednesday night. Everything seemed to go well, although I didn't sleep well due to the different environment and all the wires hooked up to me. For what it's worth, in my sleep I kicked off the electrodes stuck to my legs. The technician reattached them, but I ended up kic...

Sleep Study
I'm going to have an overnight sleep study this week, related to possible sleep apnea. The sleep specialist told me that the study also will determine periodic limb movement during sleep. I'm supposed to take my usual pramipexole dose for restless legs at bedtime at the sleep center. Does anyone who...

Re: Audio Books as sleep aids
Audiobooks or music help me to relax at bedtime. I also do Sudoku or Kenken puzzles to distract me. I also take pramipexole about an hour before bedtime.

Re: How many mg of Pramipexole do you take daily
I'm sorry to read about all the problems you are having with pramipexole. I started on 0.125 mg at bedtime and am now taking 0.25 mg daily. It's been less than a year since I was diagnosed with restless legs. I have experienced weight gain (5-7 lbs), but no other side effects. As I've written here b...

Re: Opinions of Drug Webinar
I listened to it and thought it was well-presented. I learned a few new things about pramipexole, the medication I take. There were some minor technical issues that detracted from the continuity, but all in all, it was very good.

Re: Anti-Depressants
Every one responds individually to medications. I've been doing so well on citalopram 20 mg for anxiety over the past couple of years that I am reluctant to try anything else, unless RLS/WED noticeably worsens. I take low dose pramipexole each evening.

Re: Why stop a med that is working for your RLS?
It's axiomatic that there are no perfect drugs that only treat a condition effectively, but have no side effects. Even over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications, like aspirin or tylenol, sometimes have major side effects. Personally, I'd just as soon stop taking any medication for RLS/WED, but ...

Re: Pramipexole Problems
Beth, Betty and Saptree, Thank you for your replies. A pharmacist told me that the weight gain may be due to the dopamine agonist's property of reducing impulse control. I may be eating more than I think I am eating, resulting in the weight gain. I have been able to knock down the weight slightly wi...

rthom--I took the higher dose for about 5 months.
Ann--I've never had any weight issues before and did nothing differently--same diet, same exercises--but gained the weight.

Pramipexole Problems
I've been taking pramipexole for RLS/WED since last November. It's helped relieve symptoms in the evening and given me a better night's sleep. I upped the dose early in the treatment from 0.125 mg daily to 0.25 mg daily. I know that this is not very much, but I've had two problems with the higher do...

Re: Ferritin
I don't have stomach issues when taking iron, and take a one-a-day iron on an empty stomach with orange juice every morning. My iron and blood counts are normal, but my ferritin is low (19). I'm trying to raise it with iron therapy. Has anyone had better luck using the 325 mg iron tablets? How many ...

Re: What about sleeping pills
I am new to medications for RLS/WED, and have taken low-dose pramipexole since last November. After much reading about restless legs, I consider myself, luckily, to have mild symptoms. For several years before being diagnosed with RLS/WED, I did take sleeping pills, which didn't work very well. Now ...

Clinical Trials
I noticed a page of Clinical Trials listed in the Winter 2012 edition of Night Walkers, the RLS Foundation publication. Has anyone participated in any of these? What was your experience? I'm considering whether to look into one of the Clinical Studies.
