Re: Over 40 Years of RLS

Not sure if this qualifies as holistic, but it is non pharmaceutical. I have severe PLMD and went through years of various meds and augmentation. For 5 years now I have successfully treated my nighttime legs issues solely with a TENS Unit. I use it before bedtime as prescribed for low back pain, hav...

Re: Where to go from here

Sleepnot, i don't know what all your doctor has tried before giving up, but I'm guessing there's things left to try. I do hope you can see someone who can bring ideas to you, or at least if that doesn't happen, is open to you bringing ideas to them. I spent many years suffering and going through aug...

Re: PLMW - Or Jerky Legs

As far as your CPAP treatment, I think you getting another sleep study is a good idea, especially if your meds have changed since the last time. Do discuss the meds you take before you have the study. Without knowing all the details, I'll speak in general. Take what applies and leave the rest. Some ...

Re: tingle, heavy feeling the day after a bad episode

"It was from my hips down and that part of my body jumped really high. The only way I can describe it is violent, they were violent." This description makes me wonder if what you experienced was anything like what is shown in my sleep video in my signature. If so, mine turned out to be aug...

Re: DAWS post Mirapex

I found it hard to distinguish depression from the lethargy of sleep deprivation. I was one who still struggled with limb movements disrupting sleep as well as sleep apnea, and I was on meds that had this side effect. I also had the impulse disorders side effect. I would say it was a few months afte...

Re: CPAP

My worst sleep doctor even for just the sleep apnea part was a pulmonologist. My best sleep doctor was a pulmonologist who not only handled my sleep apnea well but also was well versed and eager to learn even more about the neuro side of my sleep issues. In theory, a sleep doctor should be trained i...

Re: CPAP

I was also "pushed" into taking a sleep study and getting a CPAP. Fortunately, because I do not open my mouth when asleep, I can use the nasal cushions and a mask that allows me to sleep on my side. (I cannot sleep well on my back and often wake with back pain when I do). I used the CPAP ...

Re: Drug Holiday

Thank you for coming back and sharing that. When I got off a med due to augmentation, my RLS was much improved too. My PLMD when no longer augmenting was much improved but still needed treatment. Always good to hear a story such as yours. Glad it worked out this way for you.

Re: Severe RLS/PLMD, nothing is working

I cannot begin to know the extent of your depression and anxiety or your need for meds. I'd never suggest someone stop a med that was saving their life or their sense of well being. What I do want to say I've talked to countless people on forums (including myself) whose depression and anxiety decrea...

Re: itching, histamine release

I'm just curious, is your itching localized or over large areas? I had some itching issues in the past but didn't consider meds as the source.

Re: New Symtoms - Need help w what to do

As I advanced in augmentation, the pain in my knees, hips, legs and lower back increased. My interpretation was it was the accumulation of overuse - movements when the body should have been resting and being restored. I augmented on Mirapex then Ropinerole. I am fortunate to be one who has found use...

Re: Unrefreshing sleep: RLS+PLMs or depression?

I've been at this since 1998 when I was first diagnosed with PLMD during a sleep study. I've had several of them as I had to sort through also having sleep apnea. My movements on the studies have been all over the place just due to differences in whether the sleep apnea was treated or how well the m...

Re: Daily Sufferers: How are we Doing?

I was hesitant to post to this thread - guess it's something similar to survivor's guilt. Then I thought of the many years of utter misery and figured I do have a place here. So here we go. Meds: None for my limb movements. On blood pressure and blood sugar meds. Take supplements. Other Treatments: ...

Re: Unrefreshing sleep: RLS+PLMs or depression?

I'm impressed that you are able to gather your thoughts so orderly. I'm one who does better with lists too - helps me focus my thoughts. One hard thing about all this is separating the symptoms when there is so much overlap. With my experiences these last 15+ years I've learned to not underestimate ...

Re: Help Crazy Joe

I did it the other way around. Augmented on Mirapex then transitioned to Requip. Maybe someone will come along and report that changing to another dopamine agonist worked for them. For me, after just weeks the 2nd option began to cause augmentation and had to go through another round of getting off.
