Re: What’s working for me

The Journal of the AMA reported in the July issue that about 60% of doctors' offices that were surveyed under the guise that the caller was trying to find a GP to treat an aging mother who "by the way does it matter if she is taking an opioid for pain?" responded that they would not schedule an init...

Re: Started gabapenten - no relief

I don't remember seeing any comments about alerting with gabapentin. For most of us it is the only thing other than THC that causes drowsiness.

Re: Access to medical care

Just after I typed my last entry, I got a call from the Foundation office. As I understand it, the advocacy project is involved with a set of new bills on the floor of Congress that relate to individuals who are legitimate users of opioids who are being denied access to medical care for just that re...

Re: Access to medical care

Update: I saw a neurologist whose office is in the next town, which is "only" about 50 miles away. What a refreshing change! She knew about RLS, but I don't think that she is totally up to speed with treatment(s). But she was happy to allow me to continue with my current RLS specialist and only hand...

Re: Help!

Taco Bill, it is unfortunate that many of the portions of your story about doctors are things that most of us can relate to in our own past. Most of us have "fired" doctors or been fired by them and opioids are often part of the conversation. You will be in excellent hands with Dr B and Scripps is a...

Re: New with a major question: "Just" pain, or weakness, too?

Dial911, welcome to the board. The sensations that we experience with RLS are very difficult to describe since there are no other sensations that anyone else experiences that we can compare them to. The experience that we have also varies from person to person. Here is a link to the official diagnos...

Re: Access to medical care

I came across a report published about 2 weeks ago in US News. They conducted a poll of about 100 GPs in Michigan. They asked if the doctor would accept their mother as a new patient and then added "oh, by the way, she is taking an opioid for pain. Is that a problem". Of the doctors contacted, 40% r...
