That's what I do, Hazel! My nieces and nephews LOVE to get their own mail. Each year, I get them a subscription to a magazine that is just for them. Whenever I travel, I send postcards - they each get their own, specifically picked out for them. One year, I sent my youngest niece [edited to add] a p...

I can report my experience with both valerian and melatonin (and that of my DH). Both of us found that these drugs induced extraordinary dreaming. For me, they also kept me awake more of the night than they allowed me to sleep - I think it was related to the dreams, but the end result was that I was...

It's funny, all that is required (often) to get through our RLS is a different mindset. When I read that, I started to think about how true it is for most things in life. It's just so hard to let go of things to allow ourselves to get to that mindset. It seems to me that fear is what it is all about...

Glad your doctor followed up with you on this and that you did it. Even more glad that you feel better - I really hope this is it. If not, I want to hear about a celiac panel This Saturday I started my first set of windows (six) of three sets due to the home builder by the end of May. I thought of y...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news. . . Augmentation that you were reading about is most likely what you are experiencing. Like you, I sure didn't like what I was reading when I was experiencing the same thing! I also had a not-too-up-to-date doctor, and by the time I had read enough to educate mys...

I am under the impression that having an allergic reaction to one opioid does not mean that you are allergic to all. I had a violent reaction to Vicoden, yet I take Methadone with no problem. It was Dr Buchfurer, an RLS researcher and doctor, that told me I would probably be able to take something e...

Hi Grannymac. There are lots of posts about this subject, so you can hunt around to see if you can get a balanced perspective. My perspective is not balanced as I went through horrible augmentation and the doctor didn't do what he should have to control it. The Mayo CLinic Algorithm (can find a link...

Penguin, I have felt so deeply alone at times. So alone, that I'm not sure I even thought that other people could/did/would understand because other people weren't in my thoughts at all. Especially in the dark of the night, with the lights out and nothing but the raging RLS and the exhausted trudgin...

Here's what I would want to know: 1. Preparing for Surgery Do I need to stop my current meds? If so, what could I take instead? Also, how can I convince my doctors how important this is to me? Who do I tell? What is the best way to communicate this to them? 2. Your Medications (before, during, after...

Oh Penguin. It sounds awful. I can't say I've experienced anything like that. When I first started on Mirapex, I got a constant tremor in both hands/arms. I would notice it most when I set my hands on the keyboard to type and I could feel and watch them move. But, it went away after a couple of week...

Again, I'm not a doctor, but the 4 criteria are: 1. Weird, strange, painful, or pulling type sensation in some body part 2. The sensation is eliminated by movement (usually immediately), but when movement stops, the sensation may come back. 3. Is worst in the evening, however it can occur at any tim...

Nope! Well, of course I'm not a doctor. But RLS does not cause Parkinson's, if you are worried about that. Only a Neuro can tell you for sure if it is something other than RLS. Please go to the sticky post in this section. There is a list of questions to ask that will determine if it is RLS. That sh...

Marion, Requip may be causing your RLS to be so much worse. Please, please get an appointment if you can. Requip (and other drugs in its class) can cause RLS to be much worse in intensity and frequency (called augmentation). If this is caused by the Requip, your doctor needs to get you off of the dr...

Hi Hanzy, I only have a minute, but there have been many, many posts about Requip. Check out the Pharmaceutical section of the board and scroll through it. The basic facts: it helps about 80% of people who try it, it can have significant side effects, it is a class of drugs called dopamine agonists,...

I'm not necessarily knocking the list of physicians on the site, but it is not vetted in any way. The docs have simply indicated an interest in treating RLS - that doesn't mean they are up on the latest info! Are you familiar with the Mayo Clinic's algorithm for treating RLS? My doc was great about ...
