Re: reflections on a bad trip to the RLS specialist
Polar Bear, I feel your pain. Your description of your nights is exactly how I spent mine, for most of this summer. By the end of August, I was at wit's end, was sinking further into depression, and wondering how I was going to manage living out the rest of my life. My happy result, as people will k...

Food Triggers and Vascular Dilation
Like many of us, I have been struggling to identify and understand my food triggers. Triggers that I am fairly certain of are: 2% milk, ice cream, honey, chocolate. Triggers that are on my strong possibility list are: cheese, certain fresh fruits (not yet identified), black licorice, MSG, processed ...

Re: Another year of relief
So I cautiously began the oxalate diet by taking out high oxalate foods and limiting moderate oxalate foods. No spectacular results, but I wasn't really expecting anything right off the bat. Yesterday I re-introduced dairy, which I haven't eaten in about a year. I had a small glass of milk around no...

Re: Scratch and Carry Technique
I don't have any increase in symptoms when I do it. So it appears that a quick rule of thumb may be that if this results in increased discomfort, don't "poke the bear" !

Re: lorazepam and RLS
I have been on Clonazepam for 2 months. My primary care doctor prescribed it to see if it would calm my rls. It makes me sleepy but I still wake up about 1 1/2 hours later with restless legs. I'm going back in to see him because he said he has other "tricks in his bag" to try. We have rul...

Re: lorazepam and RLS
Clonazepam was, for many years, my very best friend. It has always been a secondary drug for me -- I would use it in conjunction with another drug, such as mirapex, to smooth out the ups and downs of my symptoms, and to control symptoms when I travelled. When I was going through a period of wild sym...

Re: Another year of relief
I think that the whole issue of food-related triggers is the most perplexing and the most frustrating for all of us. As a group, we know that something is triggering our bad nights, which is not present on our good nights. The problem is that what we identify as potential triggers is so disparate an...

Re: Another year of relief
Interesting. I have felt for a while now that my triggers consist of a peculiar group of foods, but that it was very difficult to sort out the culprits without a laborious and difficult elimination and re-introduction process. For example, I began to feel that fresh fruit is an issue, but I couldn't...

Re: tv & radio to sleep?
I listen at a low level to political news on YouTube, when I'm trying to make up some extra sleep between 6 am and 10 am. It distracts my mind from the fact that it's 6 am and I've only have 3.5 hours of sleep; it lets me know that I've actually slept (I can't remember what anyone said), and it acts...

Re: Scratch and Carry Technique
I've tried it a couple of times now, with reasonable success. If my attack is quite bad, it doesn't help much. If my RLS is at the simmer stage rather than full boil, it works quite well. I can usually get back to sleep for another hour or so (which is awesome in my world).

Re: Massage sticks & foam rollers, trigger points
I found this interesting article on the treatment of trigger points for RLS. They call it the "Restful Legs Recipe". While I am way beyond the point of being able to release my trigger points with simple compression techniques, it does show the same trigger point areas that I find to be in...

Re: Seeking sleep months after going off Mirapex
That makes sense about the Sativex. If it's a product that consists of cannabis extracts rather than a synthetic derivative, it would need to be removed from the controlled substances list in order for the FDA to give its approval. It's approved by Health Canada here in Canada, but likely because we...

Re: Seeking sleep months after going off Mirapex
I just saw him last month. I asked what my status would be with him; he said he was simply a medical consult for me, and that I wouldn't see him again unless some further advice was required. So I don't anticipate talking to him again unless his original advice quits working. Sorry to hear that Ohio...

Re: Seeking sleep months after going off Mirapex
Hey there. I have been in a similar position for the past year. I was on dopamine agents for about 18 years, and augmented to the point where I was experiencing continuous jack knife spasms when I attempted to transition to a new medication. I ended up on a cocktail of Neupro, gabapentin, and clonaz...
