doety, I don't know a lot about the pharmacology side of meds, but I suspect that if you've only been taking it for a month, then although stopping it cold is likely to mean your symptoms are more severe for a time, perhaps this length of time won't be too long. If you decide to stop the Requip - Do...

Medical Column - Local Paper

My attention has just been drawn to a medical column in today's local Sunday paper, as follows: Q: I suffer from restless legs syndrome and my husband is at the end of his tether. What can I do to help this? A: Restless legs syndrome can affect up to 10% of adults and is a sensation that makes you w...

Jane, I think IMHO means 'in my humble opinion'. I would agree with the others about considering getting off the Sinamet as it is ok to use sometimes when it is only occasional rls, but it is not for daily use as it is more likely to make matters worse. Yes, the dopamine agonists Mirapex and Requip ...

Ann, I also find that the effects of the meds never last as long as it is indicated that they should.

Hope Dr B's next option works better.

Just for a little information - I quoted a little piece from Dr Bs. book regarding augmentation/withdrawal/opiates under the other thread 'Dealing with RLS'. Post is 17 February at 9.07am.

Best wishes for your doc appointment today.

I only had a short time but I hunted out my copy of Dr Bs book on Restless Legs Syndrome. In chapter 8 on Augmentation on page 114 there is a little bit about stopping the potentially problematic dopamine drug to resolve the augmentation........ "During this interval they may need additional th...

I don't think I've ever been in the position where I've had no decent sleep and also had constant rls 24/7 the next day. Generally even if exhausted from no sleep, I manage to get some coverage over the symptoms, once I am out of bed. I feel for you - and hope you are at this moment - defying the od...

[quote="ViewsAskew"] I was in bed about 7 hours, but was awake at least 30 times, each time with RLS. I was able to fall back to sleep by contorting my body, but by the time I got out of bed my back was very unhappy from being bent into weird shapes all night. [quote] This means you were '...

I have rls 24/7 for over 30 years. I take requip (which is similar to mirapex) supplemented with tramadol.

From a personal position I feel that it has improved my quality of life and the issue of dependency does not arise (for me) as I will always require medication for this condition.
