The Oxycodone might just be a transition drug to the Methadone. Sometimes RLS will get worse when you taper off of one med and onto another. I had an external version (ECV) yesterday - the baby turned breech last week! Two doctors oiled up my giant belly and pushed/pulled this boy back into place. I...

Well, I thought I'd post an update. If anything, maybe this will give future pregnant RLSers an idea of what can be done, what to expect, etc. As I think I've said before, there's a lot of information out there on Methadone studies and pregnancy, but they are all on high-dose women, mostly recoverin...

Oh no, I'm not suggesting everyone go out and buy one of these. Just another tool in the arsenal. Perhaps everyone should come over and give it a whirl. Next time you're in town! I *can not* wait until I deliver this baby and can get some relief. I've had some false labor, but nothing is happening y...

I'll chime in and also give the arms a vote. I started out with RLS only in my legs, and after experiencing augmentation on Mirapex, I started getting it in both of my arms. Even after I discontinued the Mirapex, the arm symptoms never went away.

Foot Massager

I thought I'd mention something that is helping me right now. I'm pregnant, so taking much less medication to control my RLS. I still take a low-dose of Methadone, but it's not enough to really address the symptoms. I get about 40% relief, I'd say. So I'm also using a foot massager before I go to be...

If I try to suppress the movements, my legs will just jerk on their own. It's almost like a static electricity charge... it builds up, and if I don't move, it will jolt my legs for me.

I've also got a high startle reflex, part of having PTSD. I'm not sure if it's connected to the RLS, though. Both my father and maternal grandfather had RLS, too. My startle reflex has been around forever, while the RLS developed later in life, after a back injury.... so, I'm more likely to say that...

Hi Daisy,

I am sure you will have a positive visit with Dr. Buchfuhrer. He's a great doctor. I'm the self-appointed local ambassador, so I will send you a message off-list... but for anyone coming into town, I'm happy to help make your trip to Los Angeles pleasant!

best,
Julie

No worries, cardiologist did an EKG and echocardiogram. I'm on a monitor (they're wireless now!), but he thinks it's just increased blood volume, which is causing a murmur. The 5 mg of Methadone is barely holding me, in that it never gets rid of the symptoms completely, but I'm having about... eh, 4...

Saw the cardiologist today. I had some sort of sinus tachycardia with my first pregnancy, which thankfully resolved after delivery. Now I'm not having so much the racing pulse (it's not as bad as before), but I am having weird chest pains. Had an echo and EKG today, showing a murmur. He says it's no...

OB isn't comfortable with me on Mirapex. Honestly, everything I've read shows the dangers only in first trimester. She says they "know" Methadone much better, so they want to stick with that. Even though I had augmentation on Mirapex, I thought it was a good option for my last trimester. T...

Back to Mirapex or Requip?

I'm going back to the OB today. Had an appointment with Dr. B this week, and it was discussed that perhaps I can go back on Mirapex. With the OB and Peri's blessing, of course. It is a Cat C drug, but after first trimester, I believe we're out of any danger. I should have an answer today. It is advi...

No tapering! It's very dangerous to taper dose during pregnancy, especially first trimester. Your body is already going through enough changes. I had a bad experience trying to taper 1st trimester, not knowing any better. I do think there is at least an inquiry done on every baby that is born with s...

Buprenorphine/Subutex

I actually talked about this with the perinatologist last week. He says there's a new article that was just published in the New England Journal of Medicine, showing how Subutex (Buprenophine) babies have an easier withdrawl than Methadone babies. This doc suggested I switch. I brought it up with Dr...

Hey - Just wanted to check in with an update. I'm currently 18wks and on 5mg Methadone. I met with the Perinatologist again this week, and told him I needed to go back on the Methadone. He listened to my concerns, and was completely supportive. He's unalarmed at the medication, or the dosage. He tol...
