Weight gain can certainly happen-- but you won't know until you've tried it. I've been on neurontin for the better part of 7 years and I've never gained any weight. I would say the more troublesome side effect is sleepiness and dizziness. So make sure the doc starts you on a real low dose.... I usua...

D4- I recently tried mirapex again after severely augmenting on the stuff (and requip) a few years ago. I started at 1/4 the normal dose and was dismayed to find myself augmenting within 48 hours. My narcotics were suddenly useless and I was miserable for 3 days. Not trying to scare you... but some ...

East- 30 mg of codeine is equivalent to around 5mg of hydrocodone... So in this case it appears that this NOT related to dose of narcotic but rather the type. Codeine is what we would call a natural narcotic - as opposed to a synthetic narc, like oxycodone or hydrocodone, etc. Some people respond be...

East-- how many milligrams of the codeine and vicodin were/are you taking? Codeine is much weaker then vicodin, and depending on the dose-- you may just not be getting enough narcotic.

Jitter- if your doc started you on 300 mg-- that's too high to start out with for most people. I started out at 100mg and went up by 100 mg every month and am currently on 900 mg at night. Just so you know- it does get significantly better over time but it takes a while. When I first started neuront...

Aiken- I'm surpised your doc said it's a placebo effect when carafate suspension has been used for years for this purpose-- we use it for stomatitis and other mouth sores here in my hospital.

strange.

What Zach said is true-- depending on what caused it and where it's located-- the treatment for that pain can be remarkably different. When I went thru school, we were taught that pain falls into 3 different categories: visceral, neuropathic and somatic. If you go to to m, there's a nice summary of ...

Hi Mia-- sorry your experience was so awful. I'm glad you wrote about your experience because I think it points out a lot of things that "set" physicians off. While I am also proud of being honest, sometimes brutally, with people around me-- going to the doctor requires a completely differ...

I actually have just the opposite experience with oxycontin-- I have been on generic forever and a couple months ago I got my presciption filled at a different place and all they had was brand name oxycontin. I took a couple doses and noticed that it felt slightly less effective and wore off an hour...

The FDA requires generics to be nearly identical to their Brand name counterparts... within a certain percentage. Having said this, drugs that effect the central nervous system (pain meds, meds that affect brain chemistry-- dopamine agonists, seizure meds, antidepressants) commonly can feel differen...

Ann- given your past history of augmentation-- was there a reason you decided to try mirapex again? Is the hope that a higher ferritin level will reduce your potential for augmentation in the future? I have been on oxycontin for 2 years and while I have found it very helpful along with my neurontin....

Bonnie- I looked up the vision stuff in the package insert and it does appear that between 3-6% of patients have vison issues- blurring, trouble accomodating, dryness, etc. (which I wasn't aware of) I agree with Ann it sounds like you're augmenting as well-- which is earlier symptoms or having RLS i...

I actually do scuba dive and I have found it to worsen my RLS-- not because of the depth of the dive but because of all the kicking and lugging around heavy tanks, etc. I've always found anything that involves out of the ordinary exercise for my legs to exascerbate my symptoms...

I just wanted to jump in here and say that inconsistent delivery is actually a very good reason to pull this product. Remember that many of the patients that are using this product have Parkinson's-- and PD patients can actually get "frozen" if their DA wears off or is extremely variable i...
