Re: WED and general health

Randy I would guess it's the chronic lack of sleep causing this. I'm fairly satisfactorily medicated now and get a decent amount of sleep at night so I don't have a lot of health issues. People on this board before have noted how commonly RLS/WED patients end up at the doctor's for various non-RLS i...

Re: New: 8-year-old child w/RLS

Hi , welcome to the board and so sorry you have to be here! There are few things as agonizing as watching your child suffer and not knowing what to do. Clonidine is not a first-line treatment for adult RLS/WED, which is usually treated with one of two dopamine agonists (DAs) that have been approved ...

Re: WED/RLS and endometrial ablation

if you get the wrong meds for sedation ot may make it worse--would it not? you mean during the operation? absolutely, and that's a good point. Laur, make sure the operating team team knows that certain substances might make your WED worse (and possibly cause involuntary movements of the legs - that...

Re: Calf muscles cramping etc.= WED?

It was about a year and a half ago, but my GP was fresh out of school. I don't think she knew very much, in retrospect.

Re: New to RLS/WED treatment-New Med question

Wow, I pretty much did what I wanted with the gabapentin. In retrospect it must have been dangerous. I lost the internist who prescribed it and my new GP just upped it whenever I asked. I was taking anywhere from 900 mg to 1800 mg (along with 150 mg codeine). My WED went absolutely bonkers when I st...

Re: Horizant

It's possible it might help even though gabapentin didn't, but I would suspect that if gabapentin had no effect on your RLS symptoms, then this drug is not likely to help. On the other hand, if gabapentin was no good because of its side effects, or because it helped a bit but not enough, then Horiza...

Re: sub-groups in this discussion board?

There are different ways of setting up these boards, and different software engines that run them. I don't know much about it.

Re: information/ self help groups

I am going to start a group in my area, now that I've finished my thesis (as soon as I've defended). You could look into doing that too, if a group doesn't already exist in your area. www.rls.org -> Support Groups -> Become a leader

Re: Calf muscles cramping etc.= WED?

Betty, I was about to suggest taking both Wellbutrin 150mg pills in the morning because one of my doctors told me that would be OK (I was on Wellbutrin for a few days but it made my RLS worse so I wanted to take it in the morning). But then I saw chipmunk's post, so I guess that won't work - thanks ...

Re: Quitting Smoking & RLS

If you have the disease as per the criteria Ann has given you, then, as rthom mentioned, the stress might have been a trigger. Quitting smoking is a huge stressor (I know - I was a ***** for 6 months when I quit) and this disease ramps up when the body is under stress. You would have had to have the...

Re: WED/RLS and endometrial ablation

Hi laurg I have worsened symptoms for about 2 weeks just before my period, but it is typically not bad during it. Like Ann, I suspect it is more hormonal than to do with blood loss. I'd like to make sure, before you go through with this, that you're aware that there are medications that control the ...
