Sara, thank you for your honesty in how you feel about this. It's given me much to think about. I appreciate you letting me know that you and others have been bothered/offended by my posts in the past. As that was not an intent (and when I have done something and known it, I have immediately apologi...

Hi Randy, glad to see you around. If I remember correctly, in the last year or so they have said that people need between 7 and 10 hours of sleep, but most of us at least 8-9. Since sleep cycles are 90 minutes, it would seem that we "should" want 6, 7.5. 9, or 10.5 hours if we are sleeping naturally...

Wow, I must need to bone up on my communication skills! Going by your response, it seems to me that you have interpreted my post very differently from how I meant it. Sara, I've rewritten this post several times. I truly am confused by your previous post. What is your intent? I started to explain wh...

Toto, have you done any Web research? I'm guessing none of us here have had problems or someone would have said something. I did a quick search and found this not that Dr Buchfurer posted on the www.rlshelp.org site: "Mirapex has not been studied yet in humans with respect to pregnancy and conceptio...

Sara, I don't think you're the exception - I think many of are that way starting out. Some of us get to the point it doesn't work anymore. It works for my mom and my sister. It doesn't work for me or my uncle, but it used to for both of us. And he still can sometimes. edited to add- (Going to bed la...

I've read some of the same things about bed time. I think it applies to people for whom RLS keeps from falling asleep. For example, I used to be able to avoid ALL RLS if I went to bed before I was "too" tired. And if I felt a little twinge, I could immediately hop into bed, hold a stretch, and get t...

Toto, not sure about mixing the valerian. I'd recommend a search on a search engine. You might find something. I feel for you - you are in a tough place. My suggestions are to go to the New to RLS section and read the 'sticky' posts. The best we have to offer is contained there. Pay lots of attentio...

There are lots of people who link RLS to back injuries and back surgery. In fact, surgery in general can worsen RLS. No one knows, but the dopamine that we seem to have difficulty with, may be the dopamine that comes from our spinal fluid ( I think I'm remembering that right). If so, it makes sense ...

There are many posts about it on the board. The search function isn't always the greatest, but if you try a search, you will probably find several threads about it. The short of it: RLS occurs in all body parts :( .

Sounds like you are doing a lot of investigating and asking lots of questions, and working well with your doctor. Maybe try searching on myoclonus - hypnic jerks are just one type of them - and see what you find. Also, I just took the first three articles I came to. On the Internet, EVERYTHING is su...

Hazel's point is related to RLS that is highly augmented. When RLS is augmented by dopamine agonists, it can be the most helpful to STOP all medication for at least a week, if not two. Then you can see what the RLS is really like. Since only dopamine agonists cause augmentation, this doesn't apply i...

valhalla, this sounds like hypnic jerks (also called sleep starts), but I may have misunderstood what you wrote. Hypnic jerks are a very common form of myoclonus, affecting many people. Some people have very strong jerks, and others very mild ones. They occur as you are drifting into sleep. Mine are...

Is this on Jumpy's poll? It ought to be. I know I am stiff as can be. Never have I been limber like some people, and now it's terrible. Yoga helps, as does tai chi. I managed my RLS by knowing the exact amount of exercise to get daily (and not doing more or less), stopping caffeine, wearing loose cl...

Becat, you've said what I rarely allow myself to say to myself, let alone anyone else. Three years ago I had a little RLS and some annoying PLMD. Today I take methadone. There isn't anyplace else to go after this. It scares the pants off of me (oh, no, that is the RLS that makes me strip); I'd say i...

It is so helpful to find out that which medications make the RLS worse, isn't it? I remember being in high school and taking a Dristan (don't know if it is still available). I was laying on the couch and coudln't open my eyes, and my legs started madly. I was so tired from the cold and the medicine,...
