Hi Laurie, I think Sara's right on. There seems to be a much greater 'helpfulness' of alternative therapies for people with intermittant or mild RLS than those with moderate and severe RLS. As someone with severe (after many years of mild), I've tried 5-htp, melatonin, valerian and other natural sle...

Hi Lizz, So sorry that it is progressing. I remember how horrid it was when it spread to my arms. IMHO, the best thing you can do it arm yourself with info, and you've come to the right place to do it. m m These threads have great links of info you can take to your doctor to help him or her understa...

According to some not-so-mainsteam MDs, thyroid can be a problem YEARS before the tests indicate it's an issue. There are a couple of books out about it. Worth looking into in case no one seems to believe it's possible. So far though, Jamie, it looks like everyone is working on your side. Hope you f...

Jan, I don't know what to say. Trying to be happy when you're going through what you are is like trying to be a dog when you're a cat! Be what you are and honor those feelings, even if they are sad or angry or other things that we sometimes think aren't 'good.' Oh, I sure do wish it were that easy, ...

Brady, what a shock to hear Martina's QofL, huh? I remember that PLMD was the begininning of the end of my previous long-term relationship (9 years total, in seperate beds after 3, having separate lives after 6). It's very hard on a relationship when you don't discuss it. . .or deal with it. . . You...

Ann, it sure can feel that way, can't it? It can be hard to remember that it's not in your head when you don't know for sure. But regardless of what they finally diagnose it as, something very real is causing it. It just may take some time to get it all sorted out. Hopefully your appointment with th...

Corrie, Brady, Sara - so many good points, so insightful. Rest and relaxation being the enemy of RLS never occurred to me. It could be a good way help others understand why RLS can be so difficult to deal with. The point about working from a place of acceptance while being on the barricades is impor...

Jan, it's my turn to have tears in my eyes. Thanks for sharing that anger - I'd briefly forgotten mine and mayhaps have become too complacent. Corrie gently reminded me a month or so ago, but I was so glad not to be doing daily battle and to have someone doing a better job of listening that all I di...

I have read posts where some people say it helps them. It might have for me, but I couldn't get through the sessions! When I was laying in the table with the needles in, my RLS would fire up horribly. So, there I was, not supposed to be moving, and my legs are going nuts. Each time I moved them, whi...

I still am amazed when I hear these stories. Ian, good luck - I know what it's like with a doctor that won't listen and isn't up to date but thinks he/she is. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long. Per the magnesium thing, yes, it is supposed to help leg cramps. So is quinine. I read somewhere t...

New Research Studies
Hey, I just added a new link. Johns Hopkins now has an RLS site! There were several research studies listed on it. If anyone lived near Maryland and you can participate, it would be such a good thing.

2005 Quality of Life
"It's like an electrical current; maybe like from a cattle prod," I told my nephew. He asked more questions. "Is it like when your leg falls asleep?" "No," I said. I tried to explain again. And again. He wanted to know, but what he really wanted was to have "me" back. The "me" that didn’t need to le...

We Move Questionnaire
Hey all, We Move is still looking for info about our expereinces with RLS. I decided to rewrite my quality of life while doing the questionnaire. Here is what they are looking for: Life in Motion: Patient Questionnaire Today, more than 82 million people in the United States live their lives challeng...
