Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.

They weren't more comfortable with the Ritalin. The doctor was able to prescribe me as much oxycontin as she wanted, but the hospital only let her prescribe me seven ritalin pills. I've tried morphine, fenatyl and now oxycontin. They won't prescribe me methadone. So what's left to try? As for switch...

Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.

Hi, again. Time for another update. I'll spare you the blow-by-blow version. I have been on oxycontin monotherapy for a couple of months now. I wish I could say that it was working fine, but I can't. I wish I could say: "Weaned myself off the DAs; switched to oxycontin; legs under control; slee...

Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.

I am back with another update. This certainly has been an interesting journey. Not that it's over yet. Between about 5 and 15 February, I tapered off the Neupro patch. Dr Nuj, my pain doctor at Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok had given me 10mg tablets of morphine which I took twice a day. They did no...

Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.

Thanks, everyone, for weighing in on this. PB, by the time I saw your last message I had already put on the second patch of fentanyl. I spent a horrible 6-7 hours from about 8 pm to 3 am. My head desperately wanted to lie down but my feet wouldn't hear of it. Finally, at 3 am, I took the plunge. I t...

Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.

I put on the fenatyl patch 24 hours ago, so it is working now. It is jut not strong enough. I just heard from my doctor. She said to add a second patch. I pointed out that she had only prescribed me 11 patches. I don't see her again until 1 April. The second patch will only take effect in 18-24 hour...

Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.

I am sure I have posted since 2 February. Maybe it was another thread? Or a sub-thread? I was prescribed 10mg of morphine twice a day to get me through tapering off the Neupro patch. It wasn't nearly enough, and there were side effects, but I got off the patch. Dr Nuj, the pain doctor at Bumrungrad ...

Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.

Hi again. I just slept 11 hours. I now know there is a God. The difference? I am now on 40mg extended release oxycontin once a day instead of 10 mg extended release morphine twice a day –- wrong drug (I experienced bad dizzy spells about once every 48 hours; and probably for other reasons) and wrong...

Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.

Steve, thanks. I have now viewed the recorded webinar, and have printed the slides to give to my doctors. I have also printed the WED Foundation Revised Consensus Statement on the Management of RLS. I am now off the Neupro patch. The tapering down took about ten days. I was on 4mg at the start. I we...

Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.

Steve, thanks. That's useful information. I would like to see the webinar, so I signed up as Foundation member. It was something of an arduous process since I live in Thailand and the system doesn't seem to allow for non-US-standard formats for fields like phone numbers. I see that the webinar was o...

Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.

Thanks, JY. I think you are suggesting that at this point I should stop the Neupro and tough it out. But I am not entirely certain if that is what you are saying.

Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.

After I had already started my taper for the Neupro patch, and had gone from 4mg to 3mg, my doctors finally got back to me with their proposed taper schedule: Reduce dose from 4mg to 2mg; stay there for a week; then stop the drug. (This is while taking 10mg slow release morphine twice a day.) So I w...

Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.

I am tapering down on gapapentin. I should have done the same with the Neupro patch. I stopped cold turkey and paid a price for it. So, I went back up to 4 mg for a day and have now started to taper down. I read on one site that I should go to 3mg for two days, then 2mg for two days, then 1mg for tw...

OK, I will do that. But not only was I not on a large dose, I was also only on it for a month.

I should add that before starting the Neupro patch four weeks ago, I was on pramipexole for years.

Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.

Hi. I am just back from seeing the pain doctor at Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok, Dr Nuj. Nice woman. She did not know a lot about RLS, but she listened to what I had to say, and took the reference materials I offered her, and she agreed that I need an opiate while I am weaning myself off the DAs. T...
