Re: Vacation Reprieve

This happens to me as well. We may have the very similar RLS pathology. There is a logical basis, increase in endorphins and dopamine. That vacation high will correspond with a subsequent crash when you come home - in both dopamine and endorphins. What goes up must come down.

Why Do Opioids Work?

I’ve been researching this quite heavily, but can’t come to any definitive answers. Hoping some other informed people can chime in. I know it’s not 100% understood, but there have to be some theories.

Re: Opioid Tolerance

Thank you very much, that really helped calm my nerves and put things in perspective. Yes, life has been much more chaotic than usual. Hopefully, it will subside.

Opioid Tolerance

Unfortunately, it seems like I’m building some sort of tolerance to methadone. I’m very very concerned. I was on 5 mg in June, then jumped to 10 at the beginning of November. Now it seems like 10 isn’t cutting it. Has anyone had any experience like this? Im freaking out rn, very scared that I’ll nev...

Re: Why Does Alcohol Help Me?

that's how opioids supposedly work for RLS, by increasing dopamine The manner in which opioids relieve WED/RLS is not known. Opioids tend to reduce neuron excitability; that's also potentially a mechanism by which WED/RLS symptoms are improved (WED/RLS sensory abnormalities are thought to be un-inh...

Re: Has anyone tried buprenorphine?

I find that my sleep quality is worse on buprenorphine than methadone. If I had to choose an opioid, methadone would be my preferred.

I haven't taken a DA for many years. My RLS never returned to its baseline after taking those drugs.
Yes, my RLS is the same. DA’s made it worse and it never returned back to baseline.

Re: Bright Light Therapy and Delayed Phase Sleep Disorder

My schedule is delayed, also, and I'm not sure which came first, the RLS or the DSPD. Being that RLS is usually worst at night, I think some of learn to sleep when we are able. I also have narcolepsy, and can nap during the day. My RLS is seriously augmented from taking dopamine agonists years ago,...

Bright Light Therapy and Delayed Phase Sleep Disorder

In addition to RLS, I have delayed phase sleep disorder (dspd). Basically, this is when your circadian rhythm runs value than normal. My natural sleep schedule is from 4am-11am. Bright light therapy is used to advance one’s circadian rhythm. More specifically, long low level bright light. I was able...

So focusing on the role of iron should give us insight into the pathomechanisms for at least 60% of us, shouldn't it? (Even if I may not be among them, because iron IVs did nothing for me.)
What type of iron formulation? What was the protocol? How long did you wait to assess symptoms?

Re: RLS and hormones

According to the research there seems to be a relationship between changes in hormones and RLS. However, that relationship is not well understood. I think Brian Koo’s current clinical trial is investigating this relationship.

Re: Venofer (Iron Sucrose)

At week 7 I tapered of medications and did not see any benefit. However, I have been told that it could take as long as 120 days to see any benefit. I don’t fully understand this concept and I’m paraphrasing, but… “after iron is absorbed from macrophages, it takes around 120 days for that iron to be...

Tolerance is when you need more of a medication to get the same effect because the medication is losing its effectivenss. Augmentation is when your WED/RLS symptoms worsen in response to the ...
