Re: 1st post after 24 years of RLS

Instead of a laxative I use Benefiber and occasionally Metamucil. They are not drugs but keep things moving naturally. I and my GP both prefer them over drugs such as soflax.

Re: BEST MATTRESS FOR RLS

Good mattresses are expensive so, yes, go to a bed store and try them out.

Re: Ferritin increased with oral iron, now what?

After starting oral iron a few years ago (my ferratin on last blood test was 341 ug/L) my sleep gradually went from four hours each night to six most nights. This sleep is in three or four segments over 10 hours with walking, stretching, rubbing legs, reading and watching Netflix on my iPad, often w...

yankiwi do you mean 0.25 mg ropinirole? (I hope so!).
Yes, absolutely! Thanks for picking up my mistake.

Re: Can a treatment plan revolve around opioids?

Before taking iron I was lucky to get four hours sleep and when awake was walking and often crying from severe pain. Now, several years after taking iron along with 25mg ropinerole (occasionally another half tablet but I'm afraid of augmenting again) and two 60mg codeine tablets (one before bed, one...

Anything that works but I love my bed even though I'm up and down all night.

And two cookies regularly in addition to regular food intake would pile on the pounds or kilos very rapidly.

Re: Attempting to get off Ropinirole - again

New Zealand has a Post Code Lottery for cancer treatment. My insurance is only for big ticket items such as cataracts and joint replacement which I hope I'll never need. Insurance in the US (where my siblings live) is expensive but you can get a hip replacement in a month, even once you are retired ...

Re: Attempting to get off Ropinirole - again

It might be better in Germany but long delays for problems not thought to be urgent are typical of New Zealand's socialised medicine. Once you get to the head of the queue the care is excellent. If you are in a car crash, for instance, you get immediate great care. To get a cataract removed you have...

Oh, Betty, what a lot of problems, not least of which is the NHS. At least you had your heart checked and it and your blood pressure is now okay. Best wishes for even a small solution.

Re: Counter- Intuitive Tricks to Get Rid of RLS, including Caffeine

Fight or flight When I wake up with painful legs several times every night my brain knows I need to get up right away but my body wants to stay in bed so I usually try to stretch or rub my legs and ultimately end up getting up for an hour or two. I know I need to get up so for me "fllight" is neces...

Re: Crocheting!

The last thing I started to knit was a complicated Fair Isle sweater with little fleur de lys through the body. I stopped after my Irish setter attacked it when I was out. This was about 45 years ago! My husband's mother taught him to knit when he was about 10. Sixt-three years later when he was dyi...

Re: Regular Sleep Schedule

Technique for falling asleep quickly My window for falling asleep was very small. I'd go to bed when my legs weren't hurting but if I didn't get to sleep quickly they would start up and I'd have to get up. Even now I get up at least twice a night and need to stay up for at least an hour until safe ...
