Re: Published Research - General Sleep and RLS

Betty, that part you quote is in the "objectives" section, where they lay out the problem and summarize the state of affairs as of when they started their study. They could have said " ..but the role of vitamin D in restless legs syndrome had not been examined before this study"....

Re: Just Joined - My Thoughts and Questions

Don't ask for one. Tell your doctor exactly what's happening in your body, provide him with the medical bulletin highlighting the relevant parts, and let him suggest it. Otherwise he may think you're telling him how to do his job, or that you're a "drug-seeker". (and the PDF excerpt at vie...

Re: Just got my appointment notice with a Neurologist

I don't mean to have sounded too negative. It's definitely worth seeing the neurologist, even if he's not familiar with WED. Some people expect their doctors to know everything; or are terribly disappointed and don't know how to deal with it when they find out a specialist doesn't know everything. F...

Re: Just Joined - My Thoughts and Questions

I wouldn't advise committing to this and to working full-time also. If you're serious about it, leave yourself the option to take leave if it gets bad. Yes, you can expect it to reduce to a lower baseline level over 1 to 4 weeks. I don't remember the beginnings of this thread; what you really need w...

Re: Mirapex aug - neurotin - requip - hell

If the ropinirole is working, it may keep on working for a long time. Usually you hear on this board from people who have had problems, so those who don't have problems with it are relatively invisible. you might be fine. It is a dopamine agonist (DA) and those do tend to cause augmentation, which i...

Re: Just got my appointment notice with a Neurologist

If the worsening of your symptoms happened after you began taking ropinirole, and if you increased your dose or added the 1:00 PM dose to deal with it, then it sure does sound like augmentation. Don't think that just because you're seeing a neurologist, s/he'll know anything about WED, though. Be pr...

Re: Important Links - Augmentation & Iron

Here are some research papers and book and website extracts that deal with augmentation, the link between iron and augmentation, and general diagnosis and treatment of WED/RLS: Appropriate Use of Opioids in Treating RLS This first one is related to augmentation because the most effective treatments ...

jy13131 , which post were you responding to? The last post before you was about a muscle-tearing charlie horse. I don't think Lunesta would help with that :)

Re: Anyone else tried vicodin?

barbara Can you download and print things? The link in Polar Bear's signature should open a document that was written by doctors for doctors (but you and I can understand it too), and if you print it and bring it to your next appointment, and ask your doctor what he thinks of it, he should take it s...

Re: Mirapex/Augmentation

Well, there are plenty of things you could use besides methadone (eg. oxycodone, hydromorphone, perhaps even hydrocodone would do, or tramadol). That's up to your doctor to decide, and I feel happy saying that for once! knowing that it's Dr B:)

Re: How many times do you wake up?

Sleep has changed completely for me since the WED got bad. Prior to medication, I couldn't maintain sleep - I kept being awakened, but in-between the awakenings, I think I slept for up to an hour or two at a time. Now, if I don't take a sleeping aid (zopiclone/Imovane) I will lie in the twilight sta...

Re: Mirapex/Augmentation

Yes, augmentation has happened to other people after 10 years. It does seem like most of the people on here who've augmented have it happen within the first 5 years, but not all, and certainly not all in the literature. The longer you're on the drug, the more likely it is to happen. It's something t...
