Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal

Just visited Dr. Early myself today. My guess based on my own appointment is you had no additional medical assistance. This surprises me. Based on everything I've read on this discussion board, as well as in the book "Clinical Management of Restless Legs Syndrome" (2nd edition), a potent ...

Re: Dopamine agonist withdrawal

Glad to hear your RLS is greatly diminished! I too am interested to know if you took anything to get thru the withdrawal period. I just failed in my third "drug holiday" attempt in the last 8 months. The first time, I tried on my own with nothing to assist, and gave up after 3 nights. The ...

Just a quick update....the earlier dose of Mirapex is still working wonders (knock on wood!!). This is the longest stretch (8 months) with pretty much no symptoms that I can remember. I am still only taking the .125 MG at around 6:30 now, with the final dose of .25 MG around 8:00. I know historicall...

My wife bought me a cheapo, hand-held massager from Target. I was skeptical, but gave it a shot when my legs started acting up. To my surprise, it has actually helped. For me, it only helps when the RLS is relatively mild, and helps ward off the nasty stuff. I still need the Mirapex, but nice to hav...

Finally a break from the financial suffering

Just refilled my 30-day prescription for Pramipexole (generic Mirapex) at a cost of $14.11. My last 30-day refill on 10/11 cost $77.37!! The "true" generic pricing must have finally kicked in. I had long ago decided that the exorbitant cost was well worth it for 30 nights of decent sleep (...

I had my doubts, but the additional dose has pretty much eliminated my symptoms, at least for now. I've been taking .125 MG at 5-6 p.m. and my "normal" .25 MG around 8 p.m. Last night was night 15 with the add'l dose, and I have slept thru the night 14/15 of those nights (the only night I ...

Well, I took an additional dose yesterday for the first time - .125 MG. I think I'll ease into it; maybe just .125 MG will do the trick. It definitely helped with my evening RLS (8-10 pm). It was still there, but much less severe. I was actually able to sit down while watching TV for the first time ...

I think you'll find that if you stay off the caffeine long enough that you will no longer need it to wake up. I am already finding this to be true after just two weeks of reduced caffeine intake. Although I'm not off caffeine completely (still have one pop in a.m. and one in early afternoon), I am ...

Well, I just met with my doctor. His recommendation was to add an earlier dose of Mirapex, so I will be at .25 MG's, twice a day. Hopefully that will help. At this point, I am not only augmenting but also rebounding from the Mirapex. Also, I am waking from the RLS several times per night. Not fun. F...

Glad you have gotten some relief! The Mayo Clinic Algorithm indicates a maximum dose of 2 MG for Mirapex, and that if you are augmenting an additional dose earlier in the day may be needed, so I suppose that means you could get up to 6 MG? That does seem like an awful lot. I wonder if your relief is...

I am actually in the middle of an experiment of abstaining from coffee. I am on day 9, and for the most part, it appears the onset of my RLS is delayed by about 2-3 hours. It used to start around 1:00 or 2:00 p.m., but now it's 3:00 or 4:00 p.m. I'm trying to figure out why I'm getting the daytime R...

Caffeine / coffee

I realize caffeine generally is not good for RLS sufferers, but do most of you abstain from caffeine altogether? If so, how do you get going in the morning after a presumably lousy nights sleep? I asked my doc about this once, and he told me I should be OK drinking 2-3 cups per day, so that's what I...

How long of a period did it take to start earlier? Thanks for the replies. I first noticed the earlier onset last summer. When I met with my GP, we discussed the possibility of an upper-hamstring injury that I sustained causing a flare-up in my RLS. However, once the injury healed, the daytime RLS ...

Mirapex and augmentation

I am 42 years old and I've had RLS for about 14 years. I have been taking .25 MG Mirapex at 8 p.m. for about 7 years, and it worked wonderfully at first. When I first had RLS, I would only get restless legs during sleep, never during the day. However, the symptons started beginning earlier and earli...
