Is IV Iron Infusion Treatment something my local family practitioner/doc can or should handle? From reading the Sleep Medicine paper it appears decisions would be needed on the type of IV treatment to pursue. Would like for my local doc to handle this but maybe better to seek a specialist who has experience with this form of RLS treatment. Appreciate your thoughts...

Well, any MD licensed in the US is legally allowed to give it. However, the history of IV Iron has made it so that very few are willing to do it. Injectafer is the only preparation recommended by the IRLSSG in their paper. The simplest way to get IV Iron would be to go to one of the RLS Quality Care Centers. Alternatively, if you can find a doc that has prescribed it for someone else with RLS, that should work ok. If your doc is willing to admit his/her lack of knowledge and is willing to learn, you may be able to educate the doc on this. That is what I did, but I have an exceptionally cooperative doc.
