New RLS Devices...

Please share your experiences, successes, and failures in using non-drug therapies for RLS/WED (methods of relief that don't involve swallowing or injecting anything), including compression, heat, light, stretches, acupuncture, etc. Also under this heading, medical interventions that don't involve the administration of a medicine to the body (eg. varicose-vein operations, deep-brain stimulation). New RLS Devices...

Post by yawny »

I learned of two new RLS devices while Googling, and after a search here I don’t see anybody talking about them so I thought I’d post what I found.

1) This device by Relegs (a Dutch company) appears to be available only in the Netherlands. The second link can be translated into English by your computer. As soon as I opened the link, I got a quickly disappearing pop-up message asking me if I wanted to translate into English (if you miss this message, just reopen the link). I read that the device is designed to be placed on the calf but read elsewhere that it can be placed anywhere the symptoms occur. I think the device may be essentially a tens unit?

2) This device by Noctrix (a USA company) doesn’t appear to be available yet and will be a “wearable NTX100 Neuromodulation therapy designed for the treatment of adults with primary moderate-severe Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) who are refractory to medications.”

I have seen on the US Government's Clinical Trials website that Dr. Buchfuhrer is about to start a clinical trial. Since Noctrix says that they have been working with Stanford, this is probably the device in Dr B's program. The title of Dr B's pending trial is "Noninvasive Peripheral Nerve Stimulation for Restless Legs Syndrome During Opioid Medication Reduction". I wish that I lived closer so that I could participate.

Thanks yawny! This is super interesting. Not much technical information, they're both holding their cards close to their chests, so to speak. They both make use of counter-stimulation to (hopefully) block the abnormal WED/RLS signals.

So glad to see the investment in these technologies. Shows you how pervasive this insidious disease is.
