Mollii Suit

Please share your experiences, successes, and failures in using non-drug therapies for RLS/WED (methods of relief that don't involve swallowing or injecting anything), including compression, heat, light, stretches, acupuncture, etc. Also under this heading, medical interventions that don't involve the administration of a medicine to the body (eg. varicose-vein operations, deep-brain stimulation). Mollii Suit

Post by stockton2malone2 »

Has anyone ever tried a Mollii Suit? It is designed to help Parkinson's patients and other movement disorders that are somewhat related to RLS/WED. Unfortunately it is only currently available in Europe, Australia, and Lebanon.

I had to look this up. It's a suit that delivers electrical impulses. There was a price quoted in 2017 of £4,100 plus taxes.
Off the top of my head it reminds me of a sophisticated tens machine.
For benefit of RLS in the legs I'd be more likely to see if a tens machine helped.

Interesting. Never heard of it, either. Fascinating stories on its website. Not sure how it would help WED/RLS, but I'd agree with Betty - some people DO benefit from TENS, so I'd start there. If the symptoms were helped, but not enough and they were bad enough, I'd try it (if I won the lottery).

I haven't read in depth, but I don't think it's like TENS. It's more like Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) than nerve stimulation (ENS). They design each person's suit for what they need, e.g. if your quads are spastic they set up the suit to activate the hamstrings. Basically they activate the opposing muscle, because the way the body works, is that the muscle opposite a tightened, active muscle relaxes. This is why when you're trying to stretch your hamstrings, just leaning forward with straight legs is not as effective as doing so with your quads tightened. The tight quads stimulate the hamstrings to relax.

So I imagine it could help WED/RLS if it was set up to stimulate the muscles that we usually use when we have to get up and walk around. I would love to try one.
