Accupuncture

Please share your experiences, successes, and failures in using non-drug therapies for RLS/WED (methods of relief that don't involve swallowing or injecting anything), including compression, heat, light, stretches, acupuncture, etc. Also under this heading, medical interventions that don't involve the administration of a medicine to the body (eg. varicose-vein operations, deep-brain stimulation). Accupuncture

Post by renealh »

I have had RLS for the past 5 years. I have tried Klonopin, Zanaflex, Skelaxin, Mirapex, Neurotin, Requip, Lunesta, Tegretol, Topamax, Remeron, Codiene, Permax, Ambien, Rozerem, Risperdal, Darvon, & Lyrica. Currently I am on Lyrica 100mg & Klonopin 1.5mg and Wellbutrin XL 150mg for the depression and it is not working. My doctor has sent me to 2 other sleep specialist and they can't come up with any other suggestions.

My doctor asked me to see if anyone has tried accupuncture and if it worked. RLS has taken over my life. I wake up numerous times throughout the night and then can't function during the day. Please help! Any suggestions are welcomed. Crying or Very sad. Renea

The best thing to do is read through this section and see what people said. many people come here and post rarely - so it could be months before the right person would see your post. It's hard work to do this, but will get you the fastest results. Also, read the sticky posts in each section. They will help you immensely.

I am so sorry you are in this position. Many of us here are in the same one, or have been and found a way out. Reading old posts in the pharma area will help you, too.

Many of us have learned that we have to take complete charge of what happens, as the docs don't know what to do. By learning from others, we can find new options.

Happy reading 8)

hi renea, sorry to hear of your problems. it looks like you're ready for alternative ideas.

just recently my jujitsu class held a seminar with a person practicing traditional shiatsu.

he identified with my RLS and said he has treated many patients for it. it is basically the same as accupuncture but without needles and he believes it is slightly better (he does both).

your body has meridian lines flowing through it and he believed that at my knee base there was a blockage which did not allow energy into the calves (where i get RLS).

after basic treatment, that night they were fine. he suggested i get someone to give it a proper session so i'm off to a class this wednesday to investigate further.

i would suggest you give it a look. the only problems are if it does work it should be done continuously so financially it may be a problem.

however, shiatsu was devised for the everyday family in japan to be able to treat each other so there are ways to self-help.

i'll report back here on what i find.
