Do cold packs help?

Please share your experiences, successes, and failures in using non-drug therapies for RLS/WED (methods of relief that don't involve swallowing or injecting anything), including compression, heat, light, stretches, acupuncture, etc. Also under this heading, medical interventions that don't involve the administration of a medicine to the body (eg. varicose-vein operations, deep-brain stimulation). Some people get relief from cold, but I think more prefer hot based on how many people comment about heating pads and hot baths.

Have you tried it for you?

Hi Edd: Before I started taken Mirapex, which has helped. When I got desperate, I would sit in a tub of hot water. That was the only thing that gave me any relief. My husband would find me in the tub at all hours. Sometimes I would even fall asleep. But cold never helped. BETTY/WV
Thanks to rls.org, I have learned so much about my condition. I have received encouragement from my friends here. This is a site I can come to when I am up most of the night, and I vent, and know those who read my messages understand

Hi Edd

Yes, the cold worked for me. I would fill a bucket with really cold water and sit with my feet in it, and splash the water up as high as possible. Use as big a bucket as you can find. If doing this in the bedroom then two or three towels under the bucket is pretty useful. It would take about 15 minutes for symptoms to calm and give me time to get to sleep. I did this before I discovered this site and began taking medication. Haven't done it since the meds.

Whatever works for you is good.
