They've ruined our sport. I hate it. The same people who messed up Christmas and every other holiday have ruined Football. It's all about making money and appealing to the side of us they think we are all about. I hate them and I want them to die and go down there...to the bad place.
It's hard to watch anymore without being disgusted. Another commercial, another celebration after making a frigging routine tackle or a catch that I could have made only they're getting paid 3 million to make them and they drop a lot of them.
Last night on the Denver/Indy game the network came back from a commercial focusing in on the sign above the entrance to the ball park...Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium. Can you see the day when both end zones will be sponsored?
"Joseph Addai into the Verizon Endzone at Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium", or better yet, each yard marker?
"It's 4th and 6 at the Burger King 25.........." as they are forever "sneaking" corporate sponors into the game, on the sidelines, in the endzone, on the Field Goal net.
It's sickening. It literally is making me hate stuff. The Network executives are selling out our sport and not only to big corprations but to you and I and supposedly we WANT a lot of things I didn't know about. Apparently WE want to see an original and choreographed End Zone celebration after a TD. WE want a close up, a clear shot...the camera set on TO on EVERY PLAY and we want to see his reaction after every play. We want to see the players FLEX after a tackle with their gold teeth shining in the stadium lights. It's getting to the point where the last thing that matters is the football game, the athleticism of the players, the skill and strategy of the coaches and players...it's all lost on Pink doing the second half intro.
I hate it. To me it's like watching the frigging Grammys, the red carpet affair at the NFL game.
It's never going to end. We're going to have to just put up with it. We can still watch college Football on Saturdays but it's getting just as bad. The Ohio State/Michigan game is going to feature Paris Hilton lip synching her "hit" at halftime. Wait and see.
I gotta go for now. Monday Night Football is coming on. New England is playing somebody and I hope Brady and company have some new routines ready.

Hey Randy,

I couldn't agree with you more. The commercialism in football is almost unbearable. The length and frequency of the commercials is especially tough to tolerate. So I do a few things to minimize the pain.

With football I flip the remote among three or four games during the commercials...one game is usually my primary game. Not a new idea but it works. I do the same with all the news programs too. To address this network TV problem in general, I subscribe to HBO (This got me started, then hooked on the Sopranos). Wow, it's great to watch 60 minutes of television without commercials! I guess I should look into getting TiVo.

And it's sad to hear that Paris Hilton is associated with the Ohio State Michigan game in any form.

And BTW, I like your Colts...Manning is the man. And GO BUCKEYES!!

LoL. Let me help you out, no matter how bad it gets, at least you don't need to watch "T.O." Owens. I'm still a Cowboy's fan but ...ugh!

Hmm, I wonder if I can find a corporate sponsor for my signature area on my forum posts. (j/k) Maybe I should email Pfizer. :)

Ugh.
"Flamboyant touch down dances"...maybe that's why Networks are so encouraging of them. So women will watch Football too. I don't know Tazzer. You and I are going to have to disagree. To me that's not what Football is about.

Colts are good Mike. Really good. I've been to a couple Colts games and they are my second favorite team right after the Bears. The Bears were here first and it's hard letting them go to follow the Colts. I'm hoping for a Bears/Colts Superbowl...not holding my breath though.

Hos...players like T.O. are why I am not a Cowboys fan. I love the old days of Landry and the Cowboys but the "new" Cowboys...you can have 'em.

Just as I post this, did anyone see Monday Night Football last night? New England and Minnesota? At halftime, the Network showed a race on the football field. Men dressed up like the Sportscasters...Theisman, Kornheiser, Steve Young, Berman. Who's idea was that? I don't know, it's a big circus.

the point is not the dance, the point is that they should be allowed to.

They should be allowed to....what?
Dance?
Why?
Why should they be allowed to dance :?:
'Cause it's a free country? Is that your point? Should they be allowed to taunt? Should they be allowed to knock the QB down then jump up and down on his chest? Should they be allowed to bring in a Chamber quartet after a TD, that performs a ten minute version of Englebert Humperdink's "After the Loving"?
I don't get it Tzz. And I'm removing the "a" from your name until I get a good answer :!: (actually, my fingers were moving too fast and I went right by the "a") Worse than that, I'm going to continue using these "emoticons"...I'll even go to the "View More Emoticons" button if I have to. :x
Do you see Baseball players jumping up and down and doing idiotic dances and hip-hop struts after every routine catch of a fly ball? Do you see 6 or 8 baseball players run out behind the plate when a runner is batted in jumping all over the place and acting stupid after every run? do you, huh? do you? I'll answer that for you...no you don't and you shouldn't.
Now...darn it anyway. Agree with me and stop being so foolish.

BECAUSE, I think when you score a touchdown you should be able to rub it in the other teams face!!!!! that is just my opinion! i think its STUPID for it to be unsportsman like conduct. yep and i loved it when bill romanowski spit in j.j. stokes face. intimidation. and again thats my opinion, just like you have yours. and you mentioned baseball :P who cares! and i wouldn't even admit i knew who englburt humptydink is  no never never never will i agree with a man.....it's just not right!  :D

My wife and I went to the Vikes/Pats game here on Monday eve and while I hate all the commercials, stupid mini-celebrations after every tackle, etc... what I REALLY can't stand is how awful some of the NFL fans have gotten. Monday night I was astounded at how many people were falling over drunk even before the game started... I witnessed 2 brawls and my wife got her butt grabbed by some drunk moron before we had even sat in our seats. When we got to our section-it became abundantly clear that the 3 drunk guys behind us were going to scream obsenities throughout the entire game and, oh yeah, one of them spilled half of their beer down the back of my shirt (after calling my wife a name I won't repeat here). Anyone who saw the game Monday night knows that my Vikings were horrible-- but I've never minded a lousy game as long as I have my hotdog and my seats are good. But when I have to protect my wife throughout the entire game and the atmosphere is so violent that you can't even bring kids anymore... something is seriously wrong with NFL fans.

ps. i love those $6 hotdogs

Whoa.
Alright. Take a step back miss, hands where I can see them. Get on the ground...ON THE GROUND! Don't make me bring out the mace or the Tazer.
hee hee
OK Tzz. It's your world.

Josh...I know exactly what you're talking about. That's a bad situation to be in and shouldn't be part of a day at the Football stadium...but it is. Everywhere.
My brother Mark is a huge Vikings fan. His big room downstairs is a shrine to the Purple Vikes. He also doesn't take any crap from anyone which made for an interesting situation when him and I went to a Bears/Vikes games at Soldier Field...him decked out in all his Minnesota Viking stuff. I was happy to get out alive. The worst part was the long walk...and it WAS long from the stadium to the car.
We also had a situation at the Colts/Vikings game last year (if I remember correctly) with some belligerant Colts fans.
I hate the way our culture is headed. Scary.

I have had more fun reading this thread than I can even tell you all. LOL Thank you all for the love.
I agree with Dee, the drunks need to stay home. I proudly wear my Yankee gear to the local Texas rangersssssss Games, and it's amazing what even woman will do these days after a few. I have had trash thrown at me and the kids and it was a blessing that the cop got to her before I finished climbing the stairs. Only cause she was a bit larger than me and drunk enough not to feel me push her. LOL She could have crushed me, but trash at me and my kids. Just one word, uuuffffaaaaa.

About the whole football thing, sports in general really, for all that money and no class to show for it. They get paid to PLAY a GAME. Show some class. Sorry I'm a Landry Fan and will never regret the years I gave openly to him or my Cowboys, in the old days. I stopped watching football when my BOYS got big heads and just made more news off the field. However, Love Emmit, Love Troy, Love Darrell........
Love football, baseball, basketball, hockey, golf (not, give me a break, they get mad if you can throw the ball farther than you can hit it, so not my sport. And on TV, no thank you, I'd rather, well, just let's say not! LOL)

Now, for the girly part of my post: going to these sporting events and the things that make me stay home.
1. great seats given to us are nice gifts and certainly not overlooked or belittled in any way........with that said, we've gotten some pretty nice gifts that way. Ok, Nice. BUT>>>>>
Ok, when you sit on the floor at a basketball game. It's sorta cool at first, your feeling pretty good until ewwww on of those sweaty guys flings sweat on you. ewwwwwwww and they are big guys and think they can fly and the fans are the buffer zone. No Thank You. Yes, that tall guy, lol, no Dirk something, I don't know, Sweated all over me while high 5ing the "dudes" around me. ewwwwwww yuck yuck yuck.
Then Football, Cowboys vs. Giants. ok! Front row right behind the Giants (hubby's team) bench and who sits next to me, but the dorks sitting next to me with the rainbow wigs and painted faces and , yes and, bodies, yeah . Well who do they decide to pick on but some mountain of a guy named Jumbo Elliott. By the 3rd Quarter of these guys screaming at him, he finally threw a cup of ice at them. But see, big guy knock down man with ball. No big guy with Aim, hits smaller quiet woman sitting next to the dorks.
Ok, it's off my chest now I've said it.
Unless it's hockey and I'm protected from those pucks coming over the glass or if it's my Yankees ( Derek hmm), Leave me at home. LOL
Thanks for the giggles and chuckles I love this thread.
Hugs love and the moon to you all.

i love football! my grandma loved it and her enthusiasm about it when i was little made me love it too. her team was the dallas cowboys and tom landry. win or lose she loved those guys, it just made us so mad when jerry jones took over and fired tom landry. i hated the cowboys for a long time. but now that i live in dreaded redskin land i have to root for them because my grandma would roll over in her grave if i even rooted for the redskins. her phrase for them were "oh great they (cowboys) are playing those cheatin bastards today (redskins)" lol everytime i think of that i laugh. i still wear one of her two favorite players jersey every time dallas plays (the guys here in the office hate it lol) good ol #12 and if i could find a #44 robert newhouse i would get that one too. my grandma raised me and every sunday was football day at our house we watched every game all day long. it's a great memory for me and i love to go to football games. me and hubby went to a texas longhorns game when they played rutgers univ. in new jersey. well you know the horns massacred them, and there i was on the rutgers side jumpin up and down every time the horns scored. hubby was like "your gonna get your butt kicked over here" and i am like " from who, someone from rutgers! please!" lol hubby loves to tell that story.

i have to tease you guys on here, because you think only men watch sports! wrong!

o by the way mace has no effect on me, thats why the cops can't catch me!

Lynnerd...A little manly sweat never hurt no one!
(I have to say that to keep the macho thing going in this thread but actually I'm getting the gag reflex over here)

Tzz...are you kidding me? Think women don't like Football? My wife is crazy about Football. Sometimes I have to tell her to settle down. She has literally KILLED Referees when the call was bad. Murdered them in cold blood. That's what I'm talking about. So don't tell me I think women don't like Football. My daughter loves Football too.
Who am I? Ward Cleaver, expecting the wifey to be in the kitchen in a dress with milk and cookies on the table, patting her on the butt when she makes a good Pot Roast? (Although, let's face it...I'D TAKE THAT ANYDAY!)(well, I mean just 'cause I love a good pot roast)(really) Smugly chuckling at her inability to comprehend the most menial things about Sports and most other things in life?
Not me sister.

Actually, I was trying to see how many men would respond to this thread. It seems like a bunch of Male RLS message board members have been responding to a lot of threads lately.
So you see, the subject title was kind of an experiment, not a statement about females and football. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to respond. :P
