going for a second opinion

Anything on your mind that isn't about RLS? It's nice to realize that there is life beyond this disease and have an opportunity to get to know our online family in a different context.

going for a second opinion

Post by ctravel12 »

I posted earlier that I went to see a kidney specialist here in town twice and found out that I do definitely have a kidney disease. As I had stated before both of my kidneys are functioning at only 40% and according to the specialist here in town he said it would not go any higher as they are shrunked and has been for a long time.

I said a prayer to God the other night to show me a sign if I should get a second opinion. He does work in strange and wonderful ways. The next morning I was going to a luncheon meeting and just before I left my sister called me and suggested that I go for a second opinion and told her that I would think about. Then all of a sudden it hit me that God just answered my prayer. I have four (4) sisters and they all told me that I should get a second opinion and so did my friends.

Well, I called the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Az. and have an appt. on the 29th of Jan at 8am. I have to be there by 7am so we will be leaving on Sunday. I originally set it for Friday, Jan 26th but felt with it being the weekend it would be best to go on a Monday as they said I may have to stay overnight.

I picked up all of my info from the specialist in town and will take it with us

I will keep you all updated on what they find out.

I am asking you again if you can please keep me in your prayers. One minute I am fine and the next I am crying. My dh asked me last night what he could do for me and my response is "Just be with me and support me and that he does do" I am very grateful for that and also for this wonderful group.

Thanks for listening to me.

A second opinion is definitely important. Sounds like you don't even have to wait long, which is great.

Ann, I was really happy that they could take me that soon. I did explain the complete situation which I am sure had a good bearing on it.

Charlene,
I have your appointment written in my calendar and I will be praying for you between now and then and especially then. I will be with you in spirit and will be anxiously awaiting word from the doctor. I'm sorry that you are struggling with this problem. Please let me know if I can do anything for you, dear friend.

Thank you for such a lovely post. Just being there and knowing you are praying for me is all that I need. You are such a sweet and dear friend and will definitely keep you posted on what the dr says. I am not sure if I have to stay over a night; however they did inform me that I may have to stay over which is no problem.

I am so fortunate to have such wonderful friends and family on this board. I cannot thank you enough.

Take care my friend and am happy to hear about your changes of jobs. You will do just fine as you are very strong and you will shine like the sun. I am also glad that you have a gentlemen that is treating you like a lady which you certainly deserve.

Hey Charlene sweetie, hang in there. I'm so glad you are going for this second opinion. Please be sure to tell them about your RLS also. It may seem like something to shove off to the side but it could be that if you are having kidney problems, the RLS could be a symptom. I think you need to let them know everything that is going on with you health-wise. We are all here for you. Be careful in your travels and let us know as soon as you can what you find out.

Rubyslipper thanks for the wonderful post. I am so fortunate to have all of you on the board pulling for me. Sometimes I try to keep it all together but than I find myself sitting and crying and falling apart. Between my dh, sisters and all of you, I know that I will do better. I do have alot of faith and that has pulled me though alot of things in the past.

Thanks for mentioning rls as I am getting together notes to take Mayo and all the help that everyone gives me is really appreciated.

I will definitely keep everyone posted on what is happening.l

Thanks again and am glad that your doing better too.

Hello to all,
Charlene you've got me in your corner as well. I've put you on the list and in my moon.
Ruby is so right about letting them knoe up front your a RLSer, they need to know that you are (not in a bad way, but what I tell them is) "a special needs patient", it gets the attentions of people quicky.
I have a plan B for you if you get nervous....... in fact, just to make it fun plan A. Print out everything you can and entertain yourself by educating everyone you come in contact with, about RLS. LOL :D Keep your mind busy, review your own knowledge, and give you a subject to talk to new the ones working with you......right down to the Xray guy.
You know I love you and know that your ready to meet this one head on. Yes, Cry every so often to keep your balance, it is ok and relieves stress.
Hugs Love and the moon,
Lynne

Hey Charlene--

I'm so anxious for you to go to Mayo's. I am so very glad you're getting another opinion---you have time and it never hurts. Besides, maybe the docs at Mayo can find out why this is happening to your kidneys.

I loved Becat's advice about keeping yourself and your mind busy---educating everyone about RLS. I can't think of a better person!

You take care, hang in there, and just feel the love we all have here for you!

Great BIG HUGS
