Anybody have a Temperpedic mattress? (sp?) We are looking to replace our mattress and are considering buying one instead of a conventional mattress.

If you mean a memory foam mattress, yes I bought one, and wouldn't be without it.
I can more easily get up in the middle of the night without disturbing my husband (usually).
And it is soooooooooooo comfortable.

We liked it so much that we bought 3 inch memory foam 'toppers' for the standard mattresses in our guest bedrooms. And we are often asked where we got them from folks who have slept on them. (we got mattress and toppers via the internet).

We bought one when the WED went crazy and i was up and down all night long. It's GREAT for minimizing movement.

We've had it since 2004 or 2005, I'd guess.

My only complaint is that they lie when they say you do not have to rotate them. Could be that we are both large/tall people with a few extra pounds, but if we don't rotate it, we do get somewhat permanent dips in it. And they are heavy and hard to rotate. I don't think we started noticing this until about 5 or 6 years after we bought it.

My daughter has one and I slept on it one night--didn't like it. For me it seemed like it was harder to turn over. Plus I got hot--seemed like it held heat more and that is NOT what I need! Although I did just purchase a mattress heater and there are times when it is really nice. I have fibormyalgia also and getting into that warm bed is wonderful. We bought a sleep number bed a year ago and I love it. There is little motion when I get up on it because we have two separate air bladders. My husband likes his bed firmer than mine. It is nice to be able to change the firmness also. After my last surgery, I made it firmer in order to be able to get out of bed easier. The mattress heater is dual control also since my husband doesn't like the heat.

To Ruby's point...

We sat, laid, and bounced on as many models of memory foam mattresses that we could find. There are vast differences in firmness. Do try them in the store. We wore comfie clothes, took our shoes off, and rolled around, got up and down, etc.

Ha ha Ann just picturing you and hubby rolling over and off all the beds at the store! :D

MIL has one and DH and I are going to take turns sleeping on it to see if we like it.

A lot of people say they are hot - I don't find that to be so. Don't know why. My hubby is like a furnace; his outer body temp feels almost like its on fire to me. He sleeps with few covers and he doesn't think it's hot, either.

Wonder if it depends on the type?

Tracy, yeah, I think we looked a bit funny in the stores, lol. But, at the time, neither of us were sleeping and we needed something desperately. If we were going to spend about $2000 US, we wanted to make sure we really liked it!

I once slept on a bed at a hotel in San Diego. The beds had been developed with the hotel chain by a mattress company. I remember waking up in the morning and thinking, OMG - that was heaven! I never bought one - they were very pricey.

I don't wake up with the tempurpedic and think, OMG - that was heaven! I don't bother hubby, hubby doesn't bother me, I'm comfortable in it, and all in all, I'm happy with it.

I don't find mine overly hot and the mattress on its own cost around £500 = $780

Ann, do you remember the name of that mattress from the hotel?

I do not...it was 1999 or so and I was traveling on business. The client put me up at a much more expensive hotel than I'd have chosen if I were paying :-).

I was in San Diego...and downtown. Funny, I remember the name of hotel that same client put me in when we did work in San Fransisco - why can't I remember San Diego????? I had this great room, my own private balcony with table and chairs and view. I remember getting up in the morning having slept so well and being remarkable awake for 6 AM, having my tea outside, wearing my plush hotel robe, reading my email on my laptop, and thinking, "I could get used to this."

Still don't remember the name, though :-).

That's what we did before buying this mattress. We tried one out at a hotel plus we spent the night at a friends house and they let us sleep on theirs. When you put out that kind of money, it pays to do your homework and try it out the best you can. Everyone (except one person) who I know has a tempurpedic mattress loves it. I'm happy with ours and that's the bottom line for anyone!

Thanks for the link!! That reminded me that I stayed at a Marriott in D.C. for a few days for a conference and I made embarrassingly few sessions as I was busy sleeping in my amazing bed in the hotel room!! From what I can find, it must have been a Jamison brand. Hmmmmmmmm.........

OK I have to say it---
"Who would have thought that you could get soo much mileage out of a mattress!!"
I know it's really really bad. But I had to.

rthom - I must be too tired to get the double entendre :) but I laughed at all your little people laughing at your joke

This mattress stuff is so confusing! Looking at the reviews online, there is no mattress brand that everyone loves, and there is always a gang of people who tell you that you will ruin your life if you buy XYZ mattress. The Sleep Number bed actually had the biggest percentage of positive reviews, but I have slept on one and I was not impressed. However, we do have a Sleep Number store nearby and it might warrant a trip to lie down on a few.
