Got sleep? What's your jam?
Got sleep? What's your jam?
I woke up today with more sleep than I'm used to and I felt energetic (where did that come from?!) and driven to accomplish something, so I took that energy and did something extremely important...I cleaned the cat area for 2 hours!!! I disinfected everyyyyything. Cleaning brings me unbridled joy. Some people get a new pair of shoes, maybe jewelry, or a cupcake, I clean. Besides the usual life stuff, what do you do when you wake up feeling good, or even a little good?

This is going to sound just as weird to some, but I go out for a long run, say 10 to 13 miles. There is a river nearby that has a trail that runs along it. Sometimes there are fly fisherman out fishing for trout, recently there were some white water kayakers so I stopped to watch them for a while, it even goes through a raptor rehab facility so I occasionally get to see a bald eagle or an osprey out fishing as well. And of course there are always the families with the kids on their bikes.

I love to garden, ride my bike, or get organized. I tend to be a bit more on the disorganized side and have NO desired to be so when I'm not feeling as good. I like the feeling of accomplishment when I get around to it. I also like to do things that create - photography, stained glass, writing. When I'm tired, I have no energy for them.

I like to create too. Sewing, oil painting, etc. When I'm feeling exhausted, I just can't get with it. I haven't done much for awhile, but have also been sick. Felt a little better today, did some cooking.

Oh - you reminded me, Deb - I LOVE to cook! I even have started developing a cookbook! But that was years ago when I had mental acuity, time, and ambition, lol.

Re: Got sleep? What's your jam?
When I get up with a bit more energy, I get restless. The clutter starts to bother me, so I usually end up cleaning. I too find it satisfying. Although that run (would be walk for me) through the woods Steve described sure sounds idyllic since I'm a country girl at heart. These city streets where I live now hold little lure. I can't be artsy and creative when things are a mess around me (small space, lot of people), but if my energy coincides with room to work, I thrive on taking something old and re-imagining it. Now that feeds my energy.

With a burst of energy I like to tackle something that's been on the to do list..... there is a great satisfaction in getting that ticked off the list.
My next 'to-do' is a large modern 7 foot tall glass fronted cabinet with glass shelves and down lighting. The special pieces in it are dusty, the shelves are dusty and so best not to switch on the down lighters
But... Oh.... when it's just been washed and polished..... what a delight.
Though I would like to discreetly cull the contents - my husband likes to show his glass bowling/golf trophies. Whereas I think one or two of those pieces would be enough.........................

Re: Got sleep? What's your jam?
I actually like weeding which is a good thing because we have literally hundreds of square meters of mostly native grasses that need weeding regularly. My husband and I bake artisan bread—he kneads by hand—which is pleasing to do and has a great outcome. We also make jam in season and do regular vegetable gardening.
If I'm really desperate for something to do I'll clean! Washing the floor on hands and knees will temporarily "cure" my RLS.
Any activity that takes concentration is good.

I fly as high as I possibly can! Literally! And if no ones looking I may do a hammerhead or two. Nothing like looking straight down at the ground from 5,000'.

Re: Got sleep? What's your jam?
I jump on my brand new (to me) bike (motorcycle) and ride... very fast because I can't go slow yet seriouosly I have to learn how to ride a tight turn on that bike, it's too big for me and I just learned how to ride!
Usually when I wake up with energy, I catch up on all the little things that slip behind - emails, banking, buying stuff, organizing stuff, etc. Un-fun but very satisfying to get out of the way.

Re: Got sleep? What's your jam?
I have started playing a game on my phone. At first, it was to keep me entertained at night. Now I play it all the time. I can't seem to put it down. It has come to the point where I have to make myself stop. It is fun though, when I am too tired to read.
