This fire is 15 miles North West of Walden, Co. where I live. It is now over 13,000 acres. It was started by a person or people. The smoke has been bad on some days depending on the wind. It's only 5 percent contained. It will be burning for a while. The cost so far is over $4 million. The night shift fire fighters sleep at our school. People just aren't careful.

The smoke from it has gotten as far south as Colorado Springs (60 miles south of Denver). We just got rid of the smoke from the New Mexico and Arizona fires, so it has been a hot and very hazy couple of weeks.

Very scary. Thinking of all those involved and affected.

I hope it doesn't threaten you in any way, Deb.

It drives me crazy how some people can be about such things...

Even though 15 miles isn't that far, it won't come near town. It's all in the mountains. The town is busy with all the fire fighters coming and going. We have a very small airport for the helicopters. It usually only has private planes.

The fire is still going. It's now over 22,000 acres. They say they are going to just let it burn. It could burn for a long time. What they are doing is trying to protect any structures that could be in its path. There are a few cabins and a couple of ranches in the area. Luckily most of the smoke is going away from us. Our only problem is that my husband has asthma. He can't do any work outside for very long. He's having some difficulty breathing at night. Nothing very serious, but mainly he's losing sleep. All of our summer projects are on hold.
Just hope they can continue to protect all the property.
