Welcome to madison168

Welcome to

madison168, who has several health issues and her RLS has become severe adding to an already overwhelming situation. She has chronic insomnia and now her RLS is so bad that she can't go back to sleep once her sleep medication has worn off. She has chronic pain during the day and enjoyed the end of the day to rest and now night time is started to stir up anxiety.

Insomnia is part of RLS, that is why it is classified as a sleep disorder. Please post a note telling us about your meds so that we can offer you some suggestions to discuss with your doctor about how to gain control of your life again.

Welcome to TempestTBI

Post by Rustsmith »

Wednesday, June 12

Welcome to

TempestTBI, who 65 years young and has had RLS for over thirty years. Tempest has been treated with Mirapex and it's generic form Pramipexole successfully and so it wondering if there are any side effects to some of the generic forms?

The generics should be pretty much the same as the name brand. However, please be aware that Mirapex/pramipexole can cause augmentation after taking it for an expended period of time. Augmentation is not something that many doctors know about and it is where the medication can actually cause your RLS to get worse. To find out more, please look through the Augmentation Forum.

Welcome to woodywvt

Post by Rustsmith »

Sunday, June 16

Welcome to

woodywvt, who has had RLS most of jis 78 years. Went into severe augmentation in mid 2018. Thru Karla at RLS Foundation hooked up with Dr. J. Winkelman. After getting up to 2700 mg gabapentin with no relief, went to methadone. 21/2 mg - no effect. 5 mg effective for about 6 weeks. 10 mg same experience. Now on 15 mg, RLS now infrequent and not bad. Side effects of methadone now becoming bad. Nausea, mood change, depression worsening, loss of appetite, weight down 18 pounds. Most recently arms "pins and needles" at night and sometimes in day. Go to bed, sleep for an hour, wake up for 2 or 3, back to sleep, wake up very groggy. Has anyone else experienced these side effect?

If you do not receive any responses, please post a note so that others are more likely to see it. Personally, I will occasionally have the pins and needles neuropathy on opioids, but not very often. But then again, I am also still on gabapentin along with the opioids.

Welcome to pika

Post by Rustsmith »

Sunday, June 16

Welcome to

pika, who twenty years ago had to go out on (temporary) disability from a teaching job as pika was falling asleep at the wheel driving home, and too to be able teach well. Getting diagnosed was a long rocky road as the school district sent pika to a psychiatrist! Eventually had sleep study and was lucky enough that pramipexole worked for 19 1/2 years before augmentation set in. Unfortunately pika's GP knows almost nothing. But did taper pika off of pramipexole, while starting on gabapentin (300 mg.). But now, a month later, pika is up until 3 a.m. every night, with twitching legs.

There are several things that you need to try to be able to get more sleep, including a higher dose of gabapentin. But the main thing is that you need your GP to provide a referral to a neurologist that specializes in movement disorders. If you will post a note giving us an idea of where you are located, we may be able to offer some suggestions. Many of us have to travel to see an RLS expert, and this might be something that you will need to consider.
