Welcome to Justletmesleep
Friday 21st January 2022
Welcome to
Justletmesleep - whose maternal GM had RLS; her mother had RLS; her sister has RLS; I have RLS; my son has RLS. Justletmesleep wonders how long before a cure, or even lasting help? JLMS needs to talk, and needs knowledge.
I am sorry to hear how many of your family suffer from this distressing disease. Knowledge we certainly have together with a great deal of experience. However, there is no cure. To talk - Please post on a relevant thread, or even better, start your own thread. Tell us of your experience and how you have managed your symptoms, ask questions, and we will do our best to help.

Welcome to Erinforever
Friday, January 21
Welcome to
Erinforever, whose partner has suffered with RLS for 25 years. There are truly no treatments that help much. She is hoping to get some new info and ideas.
We would love to be able to help the two of you out. All that you need to do is post a note in the appropriate forum that gives us an idea of the types of treatments that you have tried so that we will know which options we need to skip over.

Welcome to foxmfox1
Saturday, January 22
Welcome to
foxmfox1, who has experienced RLS for over 10 years now, has been on gabapentin for 2 years but is now less effective. Looking for information for relief.
The first step in treating RLS is to treat your iron levels if your ferritin number is below 100. If your doctor did a ferritin test and just told you that it was "normal", then ask for the number. If it is below 100, then you should start taking an oral iron supplement (65 mg iron equivalent of iron sulfate or one of the other iron supplements) on an empty stomach. You then need to have a discussion with your doctor about an iron infusion.
Otherwise, if you have any questions, just post a note here and we will do our best to answer them.

Welcome to Billie57
Tuesday, January 25
Welcome to
Billie57, who while working her RLS made her life so stressful that she became sick with fibromyalgia. She ended up filing for disability. She now takes care of her 82 year old mother, who has dementia with Alzheimer's. She is suffering from whole body RLS. She paces the back and forth day and night getting snippets of sleep here and there.
A study that was conducted recently by the Univ. of Texas found that it is not unusual for patients with Alzheimer's to also have RLS that often goes untreated. If there is any information that we can provide that would help you or your mother, just post a note to let us know what we can do.

It is usually sleep problems that eventually drive a sufferer of WED'/RLS to go see their doctor. There are many and varied solutions that can be tried and a great deal of information available here, especially in the Just Joined Forum. Please do post and tell us how you have been managing your symptoms and what medication (if any) that you have tried, including over the counter medications. We really want to help.

Welcome to goatly
Sunday, January 30
Welcome to
goatly, whose RLS used to be an occasional nuisance, just at times of theatre or evening concerts or travel; when goatly went to bed sleep was always there. Two years ago, RLS started to be an issue every single night, in the evening and all through the night. Then anxiety set in.
Is your RLS being treated by a physician? Have you had your serum iron levels checked (especially ferritin). These are things that you can do that will probably provide some immediate help. As for tonight, you can try soaking your legs in hot water. This usually provides enough short term relief to allow you to fall asleep. And if you have any questions, feel free to post a note so that we can offer you some personalized suggestions.

Welcome to cbg
Monday, January 31
Welcome to
cbg, whose RLS is largely, but not completely, relieved by Ropinerole. cbg still has issues during the day, and some evenings. cbg is also experiencing serious difficulties with thinking, concentration, reasoning as well as mood issues. These may be secondary to the RLS, to the ropinerole, to the odd sleeping habits --- or combinations thereof.
Those side effects sound a lot like sleep deprivation due to the accumulation of loss of sleep that many of us experience. If you would like suggestions that may improve your sleep or if you have any questions, just post a note and we will do what we can to help you out.
