Welcome to Sarizona

Post by Polar Bear »

25th May 2023

Welcome today to

Sarizona who is 82 years old,and was diagnosed with restless leg 23 years ago. What began as an annoyance at night has become a huge disruptor even though Sarizona been treated with dopamine agonist this whole time.

Sarizona the first thing that comes to mind is that your disruption is most likely because you have augmented on your dopamine agonist. The DAs generally help at first and then go on to actually worsen your RLS.

if you will make a post and tell us about your rls treatment, what tests your doctor has done. Have you had your Ferritin Serum checked. Note 'normal' Ferritin can be anything from 20+, never accept a comment of 'normal', an rls sufferer really is best up around 100. What DA have you been taking, what dosage. Does anything help? Have you discussed other medications with your doctor. If you make a post with this information, we can take it from there and try to suggest a way forward.

Welcome to srbsjj49

Welcome to

srbssjj49, who has had RLS since being a teenager. She can't sit anywhere for very long so going to Church, concerts or many other activities is nearly impossible. She is sleep deprived because she can't go to bed at night because her legs are acting up. The older she gets, the worse it has becomes. She was recently told by her nuerologist's office that they no longer treat RLS and she needed to find another doctor. There are none in my area that specialize in RLS.

Many of us have found that we have to travel to get care from doctors willing to treat RLS and then use their GP to write prescriptions under that doctor's guidance. There are always the Foundation Quality Care Clinics, but you can also try looking at the nearest major teaching hospitals. Finally, some have found that if their GP is willing to learn, the recent Mayo Clinic updated algorithm document can be very useful. If you have any questions, feel free to post a message.

Welcome today to

mkgrant97 who finds the issues experienced with Restless Legs are worsening upon getting older. mk travels frequently and the intensity of RL during flights is increasingly difficult to bear. mk returned from Africa a few days ago and found the 14 hour return trip was excruciating.

I also find the long haul flights in particular to be impossibly difficult. Please post giving us some background information on your RLS treatment. how have you been managing your symptoms, are you taking any prescribed medications and at what dosages. Give us as much information about your RLS as possible and we will do our best to help.

Welcome to adoug4ho

Welcome to

adoug4ho, whose RLS seemed like it has been managed for a few years with Requip, but adoug4ho is finding the need to take more, is suspecting augmentation and is not sure the doctor even knows about this.

Don't be surprised if your doctor is clueless about augmentation. Most are unless they have had another patient go through the problems of withdrawal. Take a look at our Augmentation forum and also take a look at this document: https://www.mayoclinicproceedings.org/a ... 0/fulltext

Welcome to SleepLover

Welcome to

SleepLover, who is faced with RLS resulting from a TIA mini stroke (SleepLover started experiencing it on the first day in the hospital for the stroke), SleepLover needed the best information possible from the people who are dealing with this daily. is a senior and depends on adequate sleep to manage daily life. RLS interferes with that to the extent that it makes SleepLover and those around very miserable. SleepLover has a feeling that the RLS is treatable, but might never go away.

You are correct that it is treatable and will probably never go away. If you have any questions, just post a message. And in the meantime, take a look at this document to learn about the latest recommendations on how to treat RLS. https://www.mayoclinicproceedings.org/a ... 0/fulltext

Welcome to Gerryp

Monday, May 29

Welcome to

Gerryp, who has symptoms 24 hours a day off and on despite taking the maximum dose of Requip.

You are almost certainly experiencing Augmentation with symptoms 24hrs/day and the fact that you are taking the max dose. Take a look through our forum on Augmentation to learn more. You also need to share this document with your doctor because you have a long difficult road ahead tapering the Requip and then going through the final stages of withdrawal. You will need your doctor's help and it sounds like (s)he needs to learn more about treating RLS if you are at the max dose. https://www.mayoclinicproceedings.org/a ... 0/fulltext

Welcome to

davchar23, whose severe RLS has destroyed davchar's life.

Severe RLS is very difficult to live with, especially if it hasn't been properly treated and it is very unfortunate that most doctors do not know how to diagnose or treat RLS. There are ways to manage that symptoms for all by the most extreme cases. We can help provide documentation that you can use to educate your doctor or we can suggest ways to find a doctor who knows how to manage your symptoms so that your get your quality of life back.
