New here

Post by hollowman »

Hello, I'm new here and think that I have RLS. I've experienced this sensation that I used to describe as my legs feeling "hollow", since I was about 12 years old. I don't classify my condition as severe...it comes and goes but lately has been more active. Another note....my sensations are primarily in my extremites ie hands/wrists and feet/ankles although they sometimes affect the legs and arms. My GP told me about 6 years ago that I have RLS (never heard of it before that) and that there is to treatment. I've lived with it but do have trouble getting to sleep quite often. As a matter of fact I am experiencing some discomfort as I type this. Sometimes just moving my toes or fingers provides some relief. Anyway, I'm rambling...do you think I do have RLS and has anyone tried magnesium supplements as a treatment?
Thanks for the help

Hi Hollowman,

Welcome. You wrote, "My GP told me about 6 years ago that I have RLS (never heard of it before that) and that there is to treatment." Firstly, did you mean to say your Dr. said there is NO treatment? If so, he's incorrect. There are many treatments. There is no cure. Like me, you need to find a Dr. who knows about RLS. I would suggest you browse the different "Pharmaceutical Therapies" and "Non-pharmaceutical Therapies" forums on this site and the "Medical and Scientific" link and read up on all the information.

If your Dr. said you have RLS, why are you asking for other opinions? Do you not think you do? I guess I'm confused. As far as magnesium supplements go, yes, I've heard of them working for some but not for others. RLS is a very tricky and very individual disease. What works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. It's all trial and error.

Good luck!

Hi Hollowman

Welcome to our group :)

Below are some links to some excellent RLS sites, including medications & treatments:

General RLS Information:
http://www.wemove.org/rls.html
http://www.jmjudson.com/rls.html
http://www.rlshelp.org

RLS Treatment Information:

The link below is to the RLS Foundation's 2004 Annual Report. It is a very informative read.

You might find it helpful to print out any information you think is important and put it together in a folder. If you're GP/Neurologist doesn't know much about RLS, they should be open to learning about it and helping you out.

I highly recommend the rlsrebel site. It has very practical information for "combat techniques"!

Keep us posted.

Take care
