help!! my 5 year-old has rls

Post by saminick »

hi... my son was dx with rls just over two months ago. he has been taking iron supplements since and is getting worse instead of better. a week ago he started sleepwalking (or more accurately, sleeprunning!!) which the doctor says is triggered by sleep deprivation. he wants to retest nicholas' iron. i am a single mom so i am getting up with him throughout the night. we are both sleep deprived. he is cranky and emotional, i am exhausted and irritable... the combination is not good. please... any thoughts, ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

That is terrible! It's good your doctor is checking the iron.

One thing you should do is check to be sure you aren't inadvertantly giving him meds that could make it worse. A lot of over the counter meds can make RLS worse. This link should take you to one of the posts that lists those. http://bb.rls.org/viewtopic.php?t=252

There are people on this board who have had RLS their whole lives. I'm sure some will post with good advice. You've come to the right place with this board. There is so much knowledge and understanding here. Hang in there. It will get better.

This web site might be helpful to you, I ran a search on children/rls and found this one along with others.
