ws - this may sound incredibly mean...but it's not meant that way.

The only one who can help you is you.

Start by reading every post here that you can. If you don't know your options, it's not likely you'll get good treatment. Many docs are just not educated. In addition, there are side effects that docs won't tell you about and you need to know about before you accept treatment.

Start with the Managing RLS sticky post in this section. To get there, click on the link in my signature.

As Susan said, good luck. We'll be here to answer questions and support you, too, but it all starts with you learning about RLS.

Don't give up, you will get some relief, tho it can take some time, trial and error. Take the Mayo Clinic Algorithm to your doc, that is a good start. In the meantime, in an acute attack, all I can suggest is to walk it off, hard to do when you are exhausted, possibly a shower.
Good luck.

w, sorry things are so rough. again, education, advocacy, and persistence are your best weapons. one of the easiest things for you to ask your doc to do is check your ferritin level. that can sometime be a primary cause of rls or at least a factor in its severity. most docs even if they are not real familiar with rls can do that. in the interim read, read, read. also, in your reading on the forum (managing your rls) play close attention to meds, foods, and lifestyle that can worsen rls. changing some of these may bring significan relief.

best wishes

Again I am up, I got an hour and a half sleep after watching game one of the series. I felt that I had made an accomplishment. Sad to say that a short amount of sleep will make someone happy. Got up to go pee and went back to bed. I am now having an attack of rls, got back up and watching tv and reading. Thanks for the replys, I will continue to read and educate myself. I am hoping to see a doctor soon, Im unemployed and on medicaid, so I am limited to seeing a doctor. Thanks again.

Hi,

I am also uninsured and have a pretty pathetic income. But back when my problems started my dad talked to our doctor and he agreed to see me. I've given him a little money over time as I could but we went thru long periods where he didn't ask me for a dime (a year or two altogether).

Now I am also covered under the local health networks assistance plan, and I receive 100% payment relief for most reasonable things, including all my backed payments, which is a relief..

Maybe you could ask friends or relatives if they have a friendly doctor they think might be able to help you out.. Or you could call the Human Services department for your county, and ask if they have assistance programs that would give you more freedom in what doctor you see.

You could also try asking local doctors offices if they know of any programs you might be able to inquire about with the state or local health networks.
