Welcome New Members - September 2015

Post by Rustsmith »

Tuesday, September 1

Welcome to

Ginky, who will not leave my house without taking medication, fearing the inevitable.

Take a look around and see if you can find anything useful. And please feel free to post a note with any questions that you have.

and to

RLSNWB77, who has RLS and is looking for info, resources, and holistic therapy options

You have come to the right place. Take a look around, especially the Physical Treatments forum. If you don't find something you are looking for, please post a note and ask.

and to

momz42854 who has had RLS/WED for so long thatmomz42854 had no idea what it feels like to have a good night's sleep or a nice long nap.Travel is difficult, too.

I couldn't agree more, momz42854! So many of us have just given up on the "normal" sleep, haven't we? Poke around, read the "sticky" posts in this section, and feel free to jump in and start sharing or posting.

Welcome to

mom2, who has had RLS for 3 year now, it has affected by daily work everyday and she finds it's so hard to accept this condition. She has tried everything to avoid RLS and nothing seems to work.

Take a look through the files and you should find a number of strategies for coping with RLS/WED. Not all work for everyone, but most find at least one. If you don't find what you need, please post a question in the appropriate forum and we will do your best to answer it quickly.

This Thursday, we welcome:

hope86, whose wife said he was moving all night long. Ropinerole helped, then it started during the day. Dosage kept being increased, tried to stop the drug, had issues, has seem multiple doctors - and is still having problems.

So sorry you are having all this difficulty. It sounds as if you may have PLMS - periodic movements in sleep - and that the medication you took caused something we call augmentation. This is when the medication actually makes the symptoms worse. This may have caused you to have RLS/WED during the day. Do look up augmentation here on the discussion board. Click on the link in my signature and read the posts in it - it talks about augmentation among other things. And please do start a new topic and tell us more - we can try to help you with suggestions and ideas - even about how to find doctors who are capable of treating you.

Friday, September 4

Welcome to

bentriderken, who finds that RLS makes it very difficult to sit through a play or a performance of any kind. It takes all of the enjoyment out it. Sleep is also disturbed.

and to

PoohBear39, whose RLS consists of soreness, pain and feeling like worms are crawling in my legs along with PLMS. Because nights are preoccupied with Restless leg, all social events must be in the daytime.

Take a look around to see if you can find any suggestions that help, starting with "A great place to start" at the top of this forum. If you don't find what you think you need, please post a note with your question(s).

Also on Friday, welcome to:

bj onboard, who has come to see RLS in many ways from enemy to inspiration and experiences every day without symptoms as joyful.

None of us could argue with that!

and to

khorat, for whom RLS interferes with sleep, causes fatigue, and prevents a full day's work, while the medication causes side effects.

Please look around and see if you find anything helpful. Start a new topic and introduce yourselves, ask questions, or let us more about your situations.

Welcome to

Gaslight6, who has had RLS since 1978. Since then the definition of the diagnosis changes depending upon what medical person is providing care. Regardless, it is very difficult to get a good nights sleep with your legs jerking.

Take a look through our past discussion files and see if you can find anything worthwhile. If you don't find what you need, please don't hesitate to post a question.

and to
Hedgehog70, who has severe RLS and is currently taking 3 medications ( one is an opioid ). Hedgehog is looking for answers

Hopefully you can find your answers in our past discussions. If you do not see what you are looking for, please ask.

Sunday - welcome to

Most of us would absolutely agree with that!

Welcome to

B00kL8y, who has had RLS since being a teenager and found that the RLS Foundation has been invaluable in helping obtain credible information about RLS and to connect with qualified health care providers. Now, b00kL86 wants like to connect with others in the RLS community.

Take a look around and feel free to jump into any of the discussions or to start a new topic with a question or comment.

Welcome today to

xbbj3xa, who has been undergoing physical therapy for chronic lower back pain but is still waking and restless for hours many nights and has a back therapist who is suggesting RLS.

Take a look at the discussion thread "A good place to start" at the top of this forum. In particular, the second message has a link to an article "Do you have RLS" that could help you decide.

And to

mema of four, who has had RLS for most of her life and needs a new doctor.

Take a look around - there is a thread where doctors are recommended, but there aren't that many in the list, unfortunately.

Welcome to

Slick, who is 63 yrs and has suffered for 50. Life is difficult, as is finding effective treatments. Lack of sleep affects his personality.

Take a look around to see if there is anything that might help. And feel free to post a question or join in on any of the discussions.

and to

Claudiasjohnson, who has had RLS for over 10 years and symptoms are not being reduced by medication. She has not slept a full night in weeks. She is tired of doctors refusing to put themselves in her position and research other medication options or who are willing to prescribe temporary sleeping meds.

Sounds a bit like you need a new doctor who understands RLS/WED or else need to educate one. Look through our past discussions for ideas or post a note with a general location so that we can make some suggestions.

and to

CatstyeCam, who was diagnosed about 10 years ago with WED and now wishes she could take her right leg off sometimes :(

CatstyeCam, Don't we all. Look around and feel free to post any questions you have or simply join in on any of the discussions.

Welcome to

Caruzn, whose Mom has rls so does he. It's getting progressively worse. His 25 year old has it too, so hoping to learn more

Take a look around, starting with "A Good Place to Start" at the top of this forum. If you have any further questions, please post them.

Welcome to

bwasberg, whose husband has RLS and has hes exhausted treatment options. His neurologist said she has done all she can for him and that he should look for another doctor. We need hope.

Take a look around to get an idea of what others are doing. There are many of us who have been 'fired' by our doctors and have sought help elsewhere. So please post a note giving us an idea of where you live so we can provide you with some options, although some may require some travel for you.

and

ottawa516, who was diagnosed with RLS approximately 5 years ago. I currently take a 1mg tablet of Ropinirole in the morning, in the afternoon and 5 tablets 1 hour before bedtime. His doctor doesn't seem to have much knowledge of this disease.

and

sidereal - who is having sleep difficulties, and unpleasant sensations in the legs, torso and arms.

Take a look around, starting with "A good place to start" at the top of this forum. You can also get an idea of your various options for treatments. And feel free to post a note asking any questions that may arise.

and to

Lilacladyuk, who is not able to go to the cinema or anywhere where she has to sit for long periods. The medication she take also makes her very sleepy.

Take a look around and see if you can find anything that you think might benefit you. And please feel free to post any questions that you have.

and to

BRIGHTBELT, who wants to find relief from RLS symptoms or to find a way to make it go into remission and to to share experience about RLS and symptom relief with others.

Remission is not a term that is generally used for primary RLS, but might be applicable for situations where RLS is caused by something else, but that is just semantics. Please feel free to jump into any of the existing discussions or post a new question.

and to

RLSallmylife, who is currently 56, has been unable to do most anything with friends or family in the evening and cannot travel long distances without jumpy legs. Frustrating and depressing.

Yes, frustrating and depressing is something we all can appreciate. Look around to see if you can find something that might help or feel free to post a question or to join in an existing discussion.

Welcome today to

js1600, whose RLS doc has taking 30 mg a day for severe rls. Iron levels have been nill but now are iron stable, so js1600 wants to try other meds instead of Methadone. Is looking for
the best way to wean off Methadone with the least withdrawals.

You can look around for information about getting off of meds. However, your best bet may be to post a note asking for advice for getting off of methadone.

and to

Sleeplessinsc, who has recently developed severe RLS and is seeking treatment options that don't involve prescription medication.

Take a look through the Physical Treatments and non-Prescription forums for ideas and feel free to post any questions that come to mind or to join in any of the discussions.

and to

kimboris, who has had RLS for 31 years and it seems to be worsening with age.

Unfortunately it is probably not your imagination because RLS does tend to get worse with age. As with the others, look around for info and feel free to ask questions or join in the discussions.

and to

crystalwater, who is in distress because of the constant RLS and the medications haven't worked.

You may want to start a new topic and ask some questions. Also, do look around and see if you find any existing information that will help you.

Welcome today to

Golfer, who has restless legs every night and is restless watching TV at night, sitting in a movie Theater, or long car rides at night.

Those are common issues with RLS. Take a look around to see if there is any information that would help. And feel free to post a note with any questions or to join in on any of the discussions.

Welcome today to

fgarcia238, whose wife has RLS. She was on Requip, but it really did not work so now she is on Klonipin.

Take a look around to see if you can find anything that would be helpful to her. And please feel free to post a note telling us a bit more about her situation and asking any questions that you have.
